DoD Identifies Marine Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was
supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Sgt. Douglas E. Bascom, 25, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Oct. 20 as
result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Bascom, a member of the
Individual Ready Reserves, was mobilized and assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine
Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
For further information contact the Public Affairs Officer for the
Marine Corps Mobilization Command at (816) 843-3013.
I guess Staff Sgt. Ivan "Chip" Frederick has made these Muslims mad at us. I wonder what they will do us Americans now that they are mad at us?
Sorry, I don't feel the least bit sorry for him. Taking those photos and allowing them to get out put him in the same catagory as Kerry. He gave the left a weapon to beat our troops up. No sympathy from me.
How about that other little 'Rat ... the one that outed Linda Tripp's personnel file?
What's his name ... ?
Nothing our President does remains silent. The liberal-socialist attack dogs are always on point.
These soldiers caused problems all the way to the Pentagon.
And the men and women who serve with
honor are "smeared" by the actions of the guilty.
That said, the guilty they took an oath and disregarded it.
So I don't feel sorry for them at all.
Welcome to FR. My friend, you are right to be outraged, but look at the operatic reactions of people here who claim and swear never to be influenced by the MSM. The pictures and their emotional effects rule in this day and age. Worse things happen every day in Iraq and elsewhere and as long as they're outta sight... well you know the rest. So the soldier was a "dumbass"? Like the rest of us some time in our lives, like Mother Teresa (no not the African-American) as documented by none other than our hero Christopher Hitchens? Common sense is dead, replaced by the cheap emotions of the visual media. Welcome to Soap Opera Country!
What's going to happen to the WOMAN who ran the prison camp?
Haven't heard a peep from her or about her.
Remind me of sentence that Lt Kerry got for his war crimes and atrocities.
If the people he abused weren't uniformed combatants then nothing should have happened to him. According to the Geneva Convention only regular uniformed combatants are entitled to the protections of the GC. I assume the guys that were abused were ununiformed irregulars and they should have been stood against a wall and executed as the GC allows. Anything less and they were well treated.
"I'm outraged at the sentencing of this soldier."
I am too!
I pray BUSH PARDONS them in his last days.
which brings me to a question.
Would Bush have to wait until the end of his 2nd term? I don't know how the pardon thing works.
What's his name ... ?
the name Baker rings a bell ... but I'm not sure. In any case he was a Clintonista who worked at the Pentagon and revealed that Tripp had a teenage arrest record in NJ ... a juvenile type offense of no consequence.
You are spot on with this analysis. I'd add the additional threat he and others brought on their fellow soldiers by enraging segments of the Iraqi population. If President Bush does not get re-elected, I place the key reason on Abu Ghraib.
What's going to happen to the WOMAN who ran the prison camp?
I think you already know the answer to that question....NOTHING. Hitlary went to her defense at the senate hearings. This woman is a disgrace to the Army, but will skate on this.
You're dead-on right there Tonk.
These delinquents caused the job in Iraq to be harder for the serious soldiers doing the war fighting. Their unprofessionalism cost us time, hurt the reputation of the coalition, and was an undeniable setback for the good guys.
Agreed. This guy should rot. He is scum.

You are right on the money!!
I still think jannis gave Hitlary the photos, and she leaked the story w/photos to the press.
Hitlary was visiting Iraq at the time Jannis was in the camp, and I'm sure they met up.
The dumbbells are (were?) those in the hierarchy who allowed snapshot cameras ands souvenir photo taking in war theatre knowing how obsessed this postliterate culture is with images (inluding of course the military personnel who took the pictures.) Is this a war or is this a picnic?
Oct 21, my prediction, nothing whatsoever will happen to Berger, ever. It's very interesting and all, but this event is gone, gone, gone from the legal/political landscape. Fascinating really.
