Axe-chopping at Black & Decker.
Other sources indicate some production being outsourced to China as well.

The problem with B & D is that they tried to get too big for their britches and it backfired. They should have stuck to their niche - drills and power tools. They tried to produce other products that were inferior to the competition and which created a glut in the market.

Craftsman quality. Made in America. Since 1926, Craftsman has been one of the most respected brands in the world. The quality and dependability of Craftsman tools can be directly attributed to the thousands of American workers who have provided their skills and dedication to setting, maintaining and expanding the high standards of Craftsman quality.

Drills, reciprocating saws, motors, large angle grinders, you know buggywhips. Better to sell that manufacturing capability out to make profits and get ready for The Next Big Thing (just don't ask what that is).

It's those damn consumers again. They're unwilling to pay the prices necessary to support high wages for low skilled labor.
