God grants men rights...the U.S. Constitution is there to LIMIT GOVERNMENT to tell it what it can and what it cannot do...
A fact lost on most of our leaders, politicians, public SERVANTS, and bureaucrats
Though when Louis the sun king Kerry speaks in terms of rights 'we' grant I suspect he is using we in the "Royal We"...sense of the word.

Jefferson & the Founders didn't really agree on the origin of rights, as is proved by the changes made to Jefferson's "original Rough draught" of the Declaration of Independence
"We hold these truths to be sacred & undeniable; that all men are created equal & independant, that from that equal creation they derive rights inherent & inalienable, among which are the preservation of life, & liberty, & the pursuit of happiness; ---- "
Contrast the above with:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" "
The author claims:
"The Declaration of Independence makes the relationship between citizens and government crystal clear. -- (In other words, God gives us rights that can't be taken away.) "
It is apparent from Jefferson's original words that he believed -- "that from that equal creation they [men] derive rights --"
Our rights are self evident.
We derive them from our nature, not from anyones 'god'.
I'm fine if anyone wants to claim that 'natures god' endows our rights, -
-- but I object strongly if they then insist that I obey their version of "Natures God".
