Judge William A. Fletcher wrote in an 18-page opinion for the panel. If it takes 18 pages to explain why whales don't have the right to sue, I have very little hope for the future of this country. I know it's the ninth circuit, but this can't be for real.
I have to believe deer hunters will soon be charged with murder.

The qualification for having rights is the general potential to respect rights. Its this reciprocal relationship that empowers rights as an effective social control mechanism. Otherwise our relationships are based on force, like those of animals.
