Ahh, it's so confusing!

Every year an independent tax watchdog group analyzes the average tax burden on Americans, and then calculates the "Tax Freedom Day".

This is the day after which the money you earn goes to you, not the government. This year, tax freedom day was April 11th. That's the earliest it has been since 1991. It's latest day ever was May 2nd, which occurred in 2000. Notice anything special about those dates?

Recently, John Kerry gave a speech in which he claimed Americans are actually paying more taxes under Bush, despite the tax cuts. He gave no explanation and provided no data for this claim.

Another interesting fact: Both George Bush and John Kerry are wealthy men. Bush owns only one home, his ranch in Texas. Kerry owns 4 mansions, all worth several million dollars. (His ski resort home in Idaho is an old barn brought over from Europe in pieces. Not your average A-frame).

Bush paid $250,000 in taxes this year; Kerry paid $90,000. Does that sound right? The man who wants to raise your taxes obviously has figured out a way to avoid paying his own.

Pass this on. Only 42 days until the election

I don't blame Bush from not wanting to give a single contract to France. At least some nations were polite about not helping in Iraq - I guess the French are never polite.

There's 2 main reasons why the french didn't and couldn't get those contracts.

1)Yea, its the french, they wouldn't take part in the war, they can't now ask for and get contracts.

2)They have serious ties to Victor Bout, which escalates to many risks for all the players involved. A firm with terrorists ties, would never get clearance for a construction job like this.

I don't even understand why Germany and France become so indignant when they found out they would be excluded. I mean what did they expect? Liberals and liberal nations seem to think they can f*&& us and still be recipients of our good nature.

Force of habit, even during the cold war, we took care of them.

Its like having ungreatfull relatives, where you do the dirty work, they whine and moan together with your enemies.

Heh, I have those kinds of relatives. My mother came from a home of 5 girls who were emotionally and physically abused. My mom has gotten over it and chooses to live her life for the future. 3 of her sisters became junkies and continue (40 years later) to blame their lack of motivation on their dad.

My point is many people live through sh!t, but don't feel the world or anyone else owes them something.

Another thing to consider is that fact that Iraq was run by the Baath party. Period.

They controlled ALL commerce and independent companies were nearly nonexistent once you got out of the small business sector.

Once a business got to a certain size or profitability, it was quickly seized by Saddam or one of his henchmen.

The fact is, there simply were no companies that we COULD out-source these tasks to.

After having bled for the land, I would personally been royally pissed if we gave contracts to anyone BUT US Companies.

Cheers,

Hmm... that's something I didn't know.

What I believe is important is that we keep the Iraqi people working. If only for the reason that they have gone through a lot. But also when people are kept busy they will have more patience to give democracy a chance.

I wonder if you think partition is a much better option for Iraq? Can Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites really function together? God knows how much the Kurds have suffered. I know the US may jeopardize its alliance with Turkey if it did give the Kurds their own homeland.
