Cetaceans v. Bush appeal overturned by 9th Circuit (surprisingly)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The world's whales, porpoises and dolphins have no standing to sue President Bush (news - web sites) over the U.S. Navy (news - web sites)'s use of sonar equipment that harms marine mammals, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, widely considered one of the most liberal and activist in the country, said it saw no reason why animals should not be allowed to sue but said they had not yet been granted that right.

The opinion reads like something out of Alice in Wonderland.

But at least we know why Kerry spends so much time in a wet suit - he's looking for votes among the unfairly disenfranchized cetacean community. After all, if the 9th sees no reason animals shouldn't be allowed to sue, I'm sure there's no reason that animals shouldn't be allowed to vote.

PETA has some work to do.

What's really stupid (okay...one of the many really stupid things) about this is that the 9th Circuit opened the door to this dumbass suit by previous rulings. Actually, what's _really_ stupid is that the 'self-appointed attorney' isn't doing this to mock the 9th circuit, but actually believes it.

Dolphin meat tastes pretty good. If you boil the fat off first and then roast it you have what comes close to a good pork roast. If you just roast it luau-style the sizzling can be quite entertaining.

their self-appointed lawyer, marine mammal activist Lanny Sinkin.

Sound that name out. Are you sure that he's not mocking the court? Although, the 9th is kind of mock-proof. It would be like making fun of the Three Stooges.

I don't know how sonar could harm a Cetacean since they use sonar. Might makes the ocean a bit noisy is all!

The interesting thing about this is the idea of someone suing on "someone" elses behalf, who otherwise has nothing at all to do with the suit or any knowledge or comprehension of it. Nature and animals are the ultimate liberal interest group since they have no way of voicing any disagreement with their self-appointed advocates.
