WASHINGTON, October 16 (Itar-Tass) - The United States and Russia could build solid partnership, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said.
The U.S. secretary of state gave a speech in Washington on Saturday in which he outlined key aspects of the U.S. Administration’s foreign policy.
In addition to Europe, the United States built solid partnership with its previous enemy, which was earlier called the Soviet Union and now the Russian Federation. U.S.-Russian partnership is solid and embraces all fields of cooperation – from the energy sector to healthcare. Both sides closely cooperate in security and the fight against terrorism, within the U.N. and the Russia-NATO Council, Powell said.
At the same time, the U.S. secretary of state said interaction between Washington and Moscow does not mean that the American side ignores the existing problems in Russia.
In his words, the U.S. took the following position – America and Russia may be friends. They may be partners. Friends and partners talk with each other sincerely when they feel the events to develop in the contrary direction. This is the sign of partnership and friendship, Powell pointed out.
I like this. Add India and we have a workable alliance to balance the Muslims and China.
Yes, the US & Russia can kill Muslims together. It'll be just like the good old days when we used to kill Nazis together. Only difference is that the Muslims lack the discipline to goosestep.

Well, we bombed their allie and supported the narco-islamics KLA, NATO through Turkey armed and trained the Chechins, along with the Saudies, whom we still protect. Both sides have done a lot of ill to each other and still do and only islam profits.
Russia and U.S. together would be nice - too bad it's Powell saying it -
Russia has also invited the people of Israel to move back into Russia - this might come in time for the ones in France who are under attack there -

Russia is no friend. They never were and never will be. You think selling arms and last minute dealings in Iraq before we went in was friendly? You think helping Iran build nuclear reactors is friendly? Do you think selling 55 MiGs to Venezuela (Chavez, openly communist, openly anti-US) is friendly?
With friends like Russia, who needs enemies? I could go on about Russia, but it may fill up a book. Just remember this...once a commie, always a commie.

That's what I love about Freepers: subtlety is not a lost art here. You know how many liberals would think I was saying the Nazis were better than Muslims and that the fact the sandnazis can't goosestep is insensitive and racist?

What I think they're doing is getting ready to rip off the EU bigtime by selling their carbon credits, and then backing out of their promise to ratify the treaty.
Wished I'd remembered to say that the AY-rabs were batting .500, which puts 'em into the majors...
One, there've been not-so-veiled threats from the EU that all nonexempt non ratifying countries would be subjected to punitive tariffs and "other measures" to force compliance. Granted a trade war would hurt them too, but still...
Two, even if they don't go after the USA per se, there's "American" companies operating in the EU who would be subject to Kyoto regulations when their host countries (who have ratified) announce that Kyoto is now in effect. Supposedly, the plan is to enforce Kyoto in a draconian manner on the "American" plants in the EU, while the various Kyoto comissions let the European companies do pretty much as they please. To 'level the playing field', of course.
The first concern is one that I've wondered about for quite some time. The second-well, it never even occured to me, but after Putin's announcement , a person at The Economist or the WSJ (can't remember which) wrote an article about US companies operating within the EU and the impact on them of Kyoto. It was posted here but I didn't save the link-but that was the gist of it.
I hope your scenario is the one that plays out. The stated reason for Putin's announcement-EU support for Russia's acession to the WTO-makes no sense, IMO. They were bound to be admitted sooner or later, so why ratify something that would commit them to very low economic growth, in exchange for carbon credits and support for membership ?
If Russia signs on to Kyoto, they will collapse. Period. And they know this.
As for US companies, good, they'll move out of Europe and maybe a few back to the US. Of course our oligarchical class is also all for this, they'll just move their factories even faster to India and China.
