NEW YORK - Kid power! Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) is the winner, and the rest of the country should pay attention because the vote on Nickelodeon's Web site has correctly chosen the president of the United States in the past four elections.
Nearly 400,000 children and teens voted, and the results were released Wednesday. Kerry received 57 percent of the vote; President Bush (news - web sites) got 43 percent.

But from what I can gather, Nickelodeon DIDN'T EVEN LAUNCH their site till 1996
"The site was launched in 1996 and was the first Nickelodeon Web site in the world. Cordes says it records an average of 400,000 page impressions a week, putting it in the top five kids' Web sites in Australia."

Anyone know if Nickelodeon has had a web site up for 16 years?
The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America ........
Bush won the Scholastic ("Weekly Reader"?) poll.
Oh by the way, this was an online poll. More importantly, Bush won the Weekly Reader poll, which is the real bellweather kid poll if there is such a thing.
how do they know the ages and citizenship of those who voted?
and no, i dont think nickelodean has had a webstie for sixteen years.
There hasn't BEEN an internet for 16 years!!! sheesh...
I voted in the Nickelodeon poll. I'm 38.
That's strange. When I checked it before Bush was way a head. Not even close.
George Bush won this year 52-47.
"Scriptkiddies" write programs to cast scores or hundreds of votes at once, making these polls worthless.
Scholastic Election Poll Has Mirrored Outcome of Every General Election Except Two Since 1940
NEW YORK, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Scholastic, the global children's publishing and media company, today announced the results of the 2004 Scholastic Election Poll, an educational activity that gives children too young to go to the polls themselves the opportunity to participate in the political process. More than half a million students in first through eighth grades from across the country participated in the poll, choosing George W. Bush as the next President of the United States.
Since 1940, Scholastic Classroom Magazines have given students the opportunity to cast their vote for president in the Scholastic Election Poll (online voting was added in 2000). In every election, but two, the outcome of the Scholastic Election Poll mirrored the outcome of the general election.
The exceptions were in 1948 when students chose Thomas E. Dewey over Harry S. Truman and in 1960 when more students voted for Richard M. Nixon than John F. Kennedy. In 2000, student voters chose George W. Bush, mirroring the Electoral College result but not the result of the popular vote.
In the 2004 Scholastic Election Poll, George W. Bush received 52 percent of the votes and the Democratic contender, John F. Kerry, received 47 percent. Rounding out the vote, 1 percent of students voted for other candidates.
Results from key swing states are as follows:
* Florida and Ohio were a near tie between President Bush and Senator Kerry.
* President Bush received 57 percent of the student vote in Pennsylvania.
* Senator Kerry received 58 percent of the student vote in New Hampshire.

Rational parents keep their kids AWAY from TV.
Did you know that if you're a registered Demonrat voter and you voted in the Nick Poll, your vote will automatically be counted in the general election? Now you can stay at home and don't have to stand in those boring old lines on election day. Hey, Kiddies for Kerry, if you voted in the Nickelodeon poll, tell your folks that you already voted for them so now they can stay at home on the couch and all the Free Stuff will be delivered the day after the election.
Oh yeah, an online poll for "kids" who happen to be 50 year old hippies on DU.
The dems botted it. Nickelodeon is about the intelligence level of most of the adults voting for Kerry.
how can anyone take a internet poll seriously!?! (unless it shows a victory for sKerry, then it makes headlines, of course!)
Their school teachers, that's what.
It is the Weekly Reader poll which is usuallly correct.
Well little kiddy poohs better understand in a post 9/11 world their very existence is at stake if Bush isn't elected.
"What's wrong with this picture?"
The first thing that comes to mind is Yahoo News. I have yet to see anything positive about President Bush reported by these yahoos. I just consider the source and try to ignore it.
