That strange cackling noise you might have detected wafting from the south late last week came from MTV executives in New York laughing their heads off after Michael Jackson demanded that the cable channel pull Eminem's latest video.
In the clip for "Just Lose It," Eminem mocks several celebrities, including MC Hammer and Pee Wee Herman, but he saves his sharpest jabs for Jackson. Dressed as the entertainer, Eminem's hair catches fire, as Jackson's did during an accident while filming a Pepsi commercial. Later, his nose flies off, and is booted and squashed on a dance floor -- a not-so-subtle reference to Jackson's surgically tortured face.
But what has Jackson most upset are scenes featuring Eminem, in Jackson garb, sitting on the edge of a bed as young boys bounce on the mattress behind him. At one point in the song, Eminem raps, "Come on, little kiddie, on my lap." Facing child-molestation charges, Jackson clearly isn't in a mood to just laugh it off.
"I am very angry at Eminem's depiction of me in his video," Jackson told comedian Steve Harvey on Harvey's Los Angeles radio show. "I feel that it is outrageous and disrespectful. It is one thing to spoof, but it is another to be demeaning and insensitive."
So last week, Jackson demanded that all music cable networks remove "Just Lose It" from their rotations. Only Black Entertainment Television (BET) has agreed to do so, citing their long relationship with Jackson and an unwillingness to "disparage Michael's character, or that of any other celebrity." But neither MTV nor VH1 has any intention of pulling the video. In fact, between 7 and 9 a.m. Monday, the channels aired Eminem's video at least three times.

While I have no love for Eminem, his videos are actually kinda funny.
"Tito, give me some tissue."
BET only stands up for free speech when they agree with it...
hipocrits.
heres a thought michael, stop giving eminem so much material.
Want to see the video? Go to http://launch.yahoo.com/ and click on Rap Videos. This song is #1 most viewed by a large margin.
> Jackson is feeling the effects of fame's fickle nature
And Bill "it's all about the O" Reilly
is next in line for this lesson.
>>an unwillingness to "disparage Michael's character..."
They don't need to disparage it. Michael's doing a pretty good job of it himself.
>>So important was Jackson to MTV that it named its Video Vanguard award, given to artists who have made outstanding contributions to the music-video medium, in his honor. In recent years, however, whether because of Jackson's lack of cool or just his general creepiness, the network has stripped his name from the award.
My how the mighty have fallen
Jackson's albums aren't selling these days (he charges
racism--huh? he's whiter than I am...though it could
be changes in taste, lack of talent, or fans
abandoning him because now they see what he's really all
about.
Why is Eminem on Black Entertainment Television anyways?
. . booted and squashed on a dance floor -- a not-so-subtle reference . .
Hard-hitting analysis . . .
LET THE NOSES FLY WHERE THEY MAY!
Musically, the video for Lonestar's "Mr Mom" was more to my taste but both that video and the Eminem one are
equally funny :)
Allegedly, he's a rap artist.
It's interesting that Michael Jackson helped to make MTV popular; I think when they first started they didn't
want to run his videos but once they did (feeling he was
more pop than R&B) they became huge successes and MTV and
MJ both rose to great financial success (and MTV wouldn't
be running rap at all if not for the fact that one of
its execs' sons was very interested in rap and the music
channel decided to take a chance on it. "Yo! MTV Raps"
and rap videos in general proved to be successful, also.
this can all be cleared up if MJ would just LEAVE THE CHILDREN ALONE! its real simple.
If he's conviced, will BET remove their MJ videos?
convicted, I mean...yuck, my typing!
I remember when Jacko had one of his mega-tours in the 1980's (it may have been the Thriller tour) he laid down all kinds of "conditions" that had to be met before he would deign to appear in a city. One was that the local newspaper had to run ads for the concert gratis. And some did, too, although there was much grumbling about it.
(steely)
Love the Mr Mom video! Haven't seen Eminem's yet and couldn't get it to play from Launch. I imagine I will catch it someday.
One is white and a woman...the other is Martha Stewart
why is MJ on bet in the first place. hasnt he done everything physically possible to erase all the "african american" in him anyway?
LOL!
