NEW YORK (CNN) -- Christopher Reeve's widow, Dana, reflected on his life and the days before his death in a letter released Tuesday to family, friends and supporters of the film star and activist.
"On Saturday, October 9th, Chris spent his last day of consciousness doing what he loved to do," Reeve wrote.
"He left a long phone message for Senator John Kerry lending his support and encouragement; he attended one of Will's [Reeve's son] hockey games, cheering as they won a huge victory, bursting with pride as Will was presented with the game puck for his outstanding playing that day. He and I spent the early evening on the phone and then he watched the Yankee game with Will and gobbled up one of his favorite meals, turkey tettrazini."

Kind of ironic that he would go from playing Superman to looking like Lex Luthor (who was wheelchair bound at one point BTW)
Anyway, with his wife confirming the phone call to Kerry on the 9th I think we better drop the claim that Kerry was lying.
The attendance at a hockey game sure seems to clinch that his decline was swift. Most people with sepsis take a while to die, and they are not out and about.
FWIW, she doesn't say that Reeve talked with Kerry; she says that he left him a long phone message.
no offsense to anyone, but CReeves was not my hero...tho Im sure he was to many... he worked for activism on spinal cord injuries only after he, himself had one...but still thats good of course....BUT, the fact he was a Kerry man, sheesh, real telling of his inner core to me...
and he was a multimillonaire....lots of folks would do more for research if they had the money....thats not laudable..
Why am I not surprised that the Reeve memorial service is scheduled for the 29th, right before the election. Let's hope the Demonrats turn it into Wellstone II.
So the report that he was comatose Thurday is not true? Or is this just a cover story for kerry by re-writing reeve's last days?
"Anyway, with his wife confirming the phone call to Kerry on the 9th I think we better drop the claim that Kerry was lying."
But Edwards claim that "when John Kerry is President, people like Christopher Reeve and people in wheelchairs will walk" is fair game.
Make sure you work that one in Mrs. Reeve. In her first interview, she praises a Presidential candidate. No hidden agenda there.
Kerry said Reeve left a message.
Which jibes with what Kerry said.
(Those who cautioned against running with the "Reeves went into a coma on Thursday" story were wise.)
I agree that it's a somewhat petty issue, but didn't Kerry say that he SPOKE WITH Reeve on the phone? According to this Story, Reeve merely left Kerry a message. If this is the case, then it's just one more example of Kerry embellishing facts to prop up his image.
wonder who will "speak"... I cant help but bet ole Kerry or Edwards is on the list.....
Nope. Kerry said that Reeve left him a message.
You are not alone. You hit the nail on the head when you noted that he was an activist for spinal cord injury victims only after he himself became one.
Note that he spent his final day of consciousness "doing what HE loved to do." It sounds to me as though his entire adult life was devoted to trying to do what he loved to do. Sorry, but he strikes me as one of the most selfish folks I have ever read about.
It's unbelieveable that Dana Reeve would use her husband's death to stump for Kerry. Tacky. Reeve put up a valiant struggle and I do feel terrible about what happened to him. But the fact is that he was engaging in a dangerous and rather frivolous sport when he was injured.
Reeve's wife said that he "left a message" with sKerry. sKerry said that they spoke with each other. Reeve calling and leaving a message to the effect of, "glad you brought up stem cell research," is very different than sKerry's version of things. I think there is some spin going on here, I notice sKerry has dropped the issue AFTER it came out that he may have stretched the truth a bit.
amen!
Yes. . .and of course 'Kerry phone call' is meant to obscure that or tell a different story for those who just scan the headlines.
The truth is, CNN. . .it was the 'REEVE phone call'. . .or better. . .'Reeve's phone message'
I agree. I know this is not politically correct but it irritates me when people get on their soapbox ONLY after something bad has happened to them. I suppose it's just human nature....but it's still irritating.
my son died of septis in 1992-from the time it started to the end it took less than 8 hours to kill my son. I was stunned at how fast it took his life.
