SAN DIEGO - A Border Patrol agent opened fire on a van on Monday night, triggering a police chase that wound up on the campus of a local high school.
El Cajon police said that Border Patrol agents tried to stop a van in the 900 block of Spinel Avenue, which is near Grossmont High School.
After a confrontation with the occupants, a Border Patrol agent shot into the van, hitting one passenger, according to El Cajon police.
The van's driver allegedly took off, crashing into a building on the Grossmont campus.
A helicoptor from the San Diego sherrif's department and police dogs were then enlisted in the effort to locate the suspects.
All of the suspects were arrested by Border Patrol agents, according to the police, who also said that the suspect who was shot was being treated at a local hospital.
Over a thousand Americans have given their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq to stop them before they get within a thousand miles of the border. Thousands of more federal employees are working to stop them in embassies the world over, in sea ports and airports and electronic listening posts worldwide. Thousands of more law enforcement and intelligence agents of other countries are assisting.
But that only matters to people truly concerned with terrorists, not to those whose real concern is Mexican immigrants.
It's telling that some people who say President Bush is going to be in big trouble if a terrorist crosses the border and commits a terrorist act are not willing to give President Bush any credit for the fact that none have.
Reagan did it in 1980 and I remember the Rockefeller establishment was dead set against his candidacy. It can happen again in 2008, maybe with Tancredo or someone similar... at least I'm hoping.
It's just as easy for a terrorist to steal a truck and drive 100 mph hour and crash the gates to a military base as it is for a Mexican to do so. Or a terrorist could easily make it over the open border and speed toward a school. Mexicans will destroy our country with their extreme poverty and need for Socialist government programs --- just like they've destroyed their own country which is so rich in natural resources --- but too ruined for anyone to want to live in. Ruin your country and expect to be handed another.
Here is one good reason to be concerned:

Investing in low-income children now is better for the future, study shows
With 39 percent of El Paso children under the age of 5 living in poverty, local and state advocates said it has become more important to pump more resources into programs that target the academic and health development of toddlers.
---- something is wrong when that many women and girls will birth children into poverty and expect the government to provide for them. 39% and growing poverty rates? I guess when it reaches 80% we'll look just like Mexico.
Terrorists and Mexicans are two seperate issues. Which issue are you truly concerned about and which one are you using as an excuse to advance the other?
"Terrorists and Mexicans are two seperate issues."
You seem to have the same mentality about "Terrorists and Mexicans" that the Democrats have with 911 and Iraq. We know your true colors now.
Actually, Mr. La Raza, we're not talking about Mexican immigrants here. We're talking about Mexican illegal alien lawbreakers, (and illegal alien lawbreakers from numerous other countries).
Try telling that to the families of the dead and critically injured American citizens here in Cochise County. I don't think they're willing to entertain the distinction considering they just paid one hell of a subsidy on some greedy jerks' cheap labor, cheap lawn care, and cheap lettuce.
I'm voting for the one conservative who IS running - Michael Peroutka of the Constitution Party. I'm SICK of RINOS so I have changed my registration.
If the majority shared your concerns they would insist that their local law enforcement officials protect them.
I've never heard you complain about your local officials, only President Bush.
In Texas we created the Texas Rangers to protect us from border criminals, but all y'all can do is whine about the federal government.
Most people do not consider landscapers, roofers and waiters to be terrorists.
Over 1000 Americans have given their lives protecting us from terrorists. To equate terrorists to laborers is a shameful insult to their memory.
How many US citizens have been assualted, robbed, raped or murdered by these non-terrorists? The count far exceeds that of 911.
You keep talking about the people of Cochise County being victimized by immigrants illegal alien lawbreakers
Actually, they are illegal alien lawbreaker landscapers, illegal alien lawbreaker roofers, and illegal alien lawbreaker waiters.
We do more than whine.
Our sheriff only has about 75 deputies and two groups of voluteer auxiliaries. Other police departments, about 200. About 120 Military Police. Another 200 "vigilantes". And 800 Border Patrol agents. Maybe 1,500 all told and all working together.
They caught 235,379 illegal scumbags in this county last year. That's like saying each one nabbed 157. But it still amounted to only 20% of those hopping the fence.
At least 40% of our sheriff's budget goes down the drain on illegal aliens. The State of Arizona refuses to take any action ("It's a Federal responsibility.") and the Federal government could give a rat's ass.
Remember the great Arizona Border Control Initiative? All form and no substance. It fizzled out before it ever got started. We got a token hand full of the additional agents promised. The additional helicopter assets never showed up around here. The two UAVs were kept in useless orbits 15 miles back from the border; no surprise -- the UAVs were shipped back to Israel as fast as the lease expired.
But we did get some of the portable surveillance towers. They get parked at odd places around the landscape, but since they're usually unmanned they just serve as high-tech scarecrows. And the coyotes know it.
Maybe you're right. We should just bury our dead, rehabilitate our injured, sell souvenirs and tacos to the mojados as they pass through and forget about it just like the dipsticks in DC. Excuse me, but I need to go buy more kool-aid.
