FILM FESTIVAL RIGHT IN THE LEFT'S BACKYARD

Film Festival Right in Left's Backyard
Doug Cogan

Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004

The first annual Liberty Film Festival chose West Hollywood, the very backyard of the leftist elite, as its venue to serve up a three-day buffet of conservative cinematography. Those who came to partake found the main courses and side dishes very delicious indeed.

Incredibly, the successful event was put together from an idea generated only three months ago. It was just what conservatives had ordered.

Hollywood was once patriotic. It responded to WWII with actors who left their careers to serve their country and pro-America movies that advertised war bonds. But where is Hollywood’s response to this war? Where is the epic movie about the attack on the World Trade Center and the world war we now fight to defend Western Civilization? Perhaps the success of Michael Moore’s propaganda pieces, disguised as documentaries, has inspired those on the political right to create something for a waiting audience. For three days that audience cheered, booed, laughed, mocked, cried, and gave standing ovations to filmmakers.

Three full-length films did what Hollywood has refused to do and made the case for the importance of confronting the Islamofascist terrorists in Iraq. They were Lionel Chetwynd’s Celsius 41.11, Roger Aranoff’s Confronting Iraq, and Brad Maaske and Kurdish/American Jano Rosebiani’s WMD: The Murderous Reign of Saddam Hussein. Up to 1.3 million innocents lost their lives at the hands of the Butcher of Baghdad.

Hollywood will make, and did make, a film that trashes the legacy of Ronald Reagan. Writer/director Steve Bannon, however, produced a compelling documentary called In the Face of Evil, which sets the record straight.

Reagan’s forty-five year struggle against communism, the greatest evil of the 20th Century, clearly demonstrates that The Gipper was one of freedom’s giants in his century. Textbooks will memorialize “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall” as one of history’s most empowering calls for freedom. Those words brought tears of joy to the so-called right wing audience.

A decade and a half earlier, the stirring words inspired Eastern Europeans to tear down that wall and seize their freedom.

Is It True What They Say Ann?,” featured the in-your-face Ann Coulter, author of Treason and other best-sellers. In the film, a young college airhead asked her to sign his shirt labeled “TRAITOR,” Ann was happy to oblige with: Have fun in Guantanamo, Ann Coulter.

Syndicated radio talk show host Larry Elder, based at KABC in Los Angeles, used Michael and Me to correct some of the deliberate disinformation found in Bowling for Columbine. Elder systematically and logically provided the case for the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms.

Young New York filmmaker Evan Maloney exposed for all the world to see some of the leftist America-hating propaganda on our college campuses in his Brainwashing 101. All manner of diversity is celebrated on our campuses except diversity of political opinion.

In a panel discussion, producer David Zucker, much to the horror of his extended family, explained why he had become a “September 12 Republican.” His mom still cannot make the jump to vote for a Republican president, so he has advised her to “leave it blank.”

Brian Wilson’s Michael Moore Hates America debunked some of the propaganda in Fahrenheit 911. The most unforgettable and funniest line in the film came from best-selling author Andrew Breitbart who labeled Moore a “culinary Pinocchio” – every time he tells a lie, he gains a pound.

The theme among moviegoers and producers was consistent. There is a huge potential audience for films that appeal to Middle America’s values that are not being produced by secular leftist Hollywood. Because the old guard remains blinded by their agenda, a new wave of filmmakers is filling the need.

Attention Hollywood directors, producers, and actors. We don’t need you for our entertainment. In fact, if you hate America, hate our president, and want to insult us with your craft, please move to France where you belong. At the first sound from a cap pistol, you can join them by waving a white flag and surrendering.

Isn’t freedom and American capitalism a beautiful thing?

Doug, West Hollywood is the gay and political correctness capital of Los Angeles County. They should have held it in Irvine.

Yes, it is the place you describe. It was the right thing to do to take it to them and get in their faces.

Doug: quick correction. "Michael Moore Hates America" was directed by Mike Wilson (great movie, BTW, I saw it here in Dallas). Brian Wilson is the insane Beach Boy.

IN THE FACE OF EVIL

Reagan’s War in Word & Deed is a man and nation’s journey through the heart of darkness—and what that journey means for us today. This film is not a biography of Ronald Reagan, but a hard-hitting look at leadership and moral courage. Based on Peter Schweizer’s acclaimed bestseller, Reagan’s War, the new feature-length documentary film, In the Face of Evil chronicles the brutal conflict between totalitarianism and freedom as seen through Ronald Reagan’s forty-year confrontation with Communism.
