I think you are correct. I owe everyone an apology...and cast the blame for the misunderstanding on someone else (the author of the article) - as is normal in political disputes. :)
Sherman does not have any orders on Pugsley, I believe. That is quite unusual but doesn't prove a negative. For me the most compelling evidence is the memories of the other Det. B-52 vets.
In any event the claim of SF is true, and the claim of being assigned to Delta is true... only the claim (or implication) of having seen combat with the unit is not. Again, according to the witnesses. I am not sure that the records would say much... except for medical records which would document his injuries from the crash.

A former POW was on Fox yesterday morning complaining about the film. He was definitely a Kerry guy. I didn't get his name or what his background was. I wonder if he was one of those collaborators that were given an early release from Hanoi for their cooperation and signature on a form stating that they were war criminals?
I watched a cable channel program on Hanoi POWs recently and recall that Navy Captain Richard Stratton was interviewed and he had nothing good to say about small number of POWs that did not honor the sacrifices made by POWs that had been imprisoned for years.
See bios and stories on Captain Stratton, a real hero.

great idea !
And this person thinks that Sinclair Broadcasting may be getting ready to malign him?????
Great find on his Moscow, etc diary.
This thread is bookmarked!
As I read this, the documentary, not Campbell, criticized Kerry's anti-war activities

The first sentence of the article was so poorly written that I did a double take on the author.
::::: "A Vietnam veteran shown in a documentary criticizing Sen. John Kerry's anti-war activities ..."
$$$$
It does read like the veteran is criticizing Kerry.
Larry, I agree with maica - the poorly written sentence allows both readings.

And the medical records would show that he could not have done the deeds he claimed, sounds like.
Some or most of the debunking of the WSI, if it progresses, will come from veterans like you who challenge the various WSI witnesses like Pugsley with counter narratives and point out absurdities and contradictions that non-veterans wouldn't see.
It is very, very hard to find anything in writing about the slugs on the Peace Committee. There's almost bupkus on the net. The Marines are mentioned in the rare book "Marines and Military Law in Vietnam." One of them (Abel Kavanaugh?) killed himself out of shame when he was released. Another one of the Peace Committee traitors was an SF sergeant named John Young who surrendered at Lang Vei before the major NVA attack and started collaborating immediately: his treachery was probably a factor in the camp's being overrun and the terrible loss of life there.
Young is still active in peacenik, all-purpose anti-American groups.

The only reference to a pro-Kerry POW I could find is this:

"Pete" Peterson became a Democratic politician after the war and was named ambassador to Vietnam after losing his seat in Congress (IIRC). He remains a party loyalist today.
The POWs I know personally are 2/3 Republican and 1/3 Dem and Independent combined. All of them oppose Kerry (indeed, I have only met some of them through veterans' meetings about the Kerry situation, so maybe my baseline data set is skewed).

When I googled the name of a (grammar school) classmate of mine who was a 7-year POW, I learned that he was in the plane with Pete Peterson when it was shot down.
I was very sorry to read that Peterson was a staunch Democrat. Was he the Ambassador to Vietnam when Kerry and McCain were erasing the memories of the MIA?
Thanks Crim.
I bought the book about Garwood years ago, but didn't feel it was worth my time reading about a traitor and I tossed the book in the trash.

"1966. On a bombing raid over North Vietnam, Air Force Captain Pete Peterson is shot down. He spends the next six years as a prisoner of war; his life an endless cycle of isolation, interrogation, and torture. Thirty-one years later. Douglas "Pete" Peterson returns to the land of his enemy -- voluntarily. He is the first U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam since the war -- and the first ever to Hanoi."
However, the former POW on FOX yesterday basically pooh poohed the torture and now seems to have selective memory as to what really happened at the Hanoi Hilton.
I think that is the guy that was on FOX yesterday, but this photo of him with Clinton shows only his profile, so I am not sure.
