I know the taxi driver I used in Beijing was listening to a tape, and not being astute enough in Putonguah(sp), the only word I thought I understood was "jidujiao", or "Christian"(?). He, notably, began the tape when his fare was sure to be only Meiguo ren...;-)
I recall that "leak". It claimed there were far less trouble with Christians meeting their responsibilities to family and "taxes" - IIRC.
Twenty years does things to the brain, so I may not be quite on target.
Right. It was quite a report.
I was a bit humbled as I didn't think, as I read it, that USA Christians would come out near so good by comparison.
Sad, that.
I just read a report that Christian churches - as a whole in America - are declining. Some are "showing growth", but more accurately it's just a matter of "flocks swapping sheep".
Have you heard of the "10-40" mission?
We consider ourselfes to fare well to "witness" to those of our own neighborhoods...
Yes. I spent 15 years in China/Taiwan. Eager to get back to the univ in Taipei to teach. Please Pray for God's continued confirmation and working that out.
Is it possible that Communists and Muhammadans will kill each other off in the hundreds of millions, all 'over there'?
That would be great...then we don't have to do it.
Otherwise, it looks like IslamoCommunism knocking out the West and then fighting each other for supremacy in the New-New-New World Order...
What communists? Nationalists? One party state? Power for the sake of power and order? Sure. Communists? not so much anymore.
Communists in China re moving away from Marxisim but the party members want to maintain their hold on power for the sake of power without any binding ideology.
The term/word I invent to describe this is Powerisim and Powerists.
Interesting. But I obtained copyrights on those two words 30 seconds before your post! j/k :O
"These displays are not compulsory in non-Muslim places of worship and Forum 18 found no such displays in Xinjiang's two Orthodox churches. "
Although you may not have seen any similar restrictions in churches, they do exist and they are enforced. It is not so necessary to post them there, however, since all church leadership is trained, registered and regularly monitered by the government and they are well aware of the restrictions.
Churches are not permitted to "evangelize," no one--including parents--are allowed to teach children under 18 about the Bible, and many other restrictions very similar to the ones that you have listed as posted in that mosque.
If I had to guess, I'd say that those restrictions were posted there because of some specific problem in that area or that mosque. Ordinarily, you do not see these restrictions ever made public in any place of worship because of the need to keep up the pretence of religious freedom.
The Orthodox Churches in China have no clergy. The last one died and they have yet to be replaced.
lol do they stand as historical monuments without use?
I find this kinda sad/funny.
Chinese oppression creates the radical element but also stamps it out. Its sort of a person who fans a fire and then pours water on it as soon as the sparks occur. The object is to destroy all the twigs(non chinese populous) in this resepect. To a certain degree this keeps China centrist away from geopolitical outcries in respect to religions outside the realm which is good for people living outside of it.
However I fathom they (chi coms) are settling the muslim areas of east turkestan. While suppresing the locals. The bad thing about this is if its ever completed and the locals are reduced to a 30% or less minority China will begin to look on central asian countries of the former Soviet Union with a goal to assimilate them in a simmilar manner and that is where the sparks might fly.
While Communisim may explain some harshness on the part of the Chinese towards religion - my historian part is telling me Chinese still remember the 1850-60s when Muslims from the east went on jihad against the Chinese empire and a cult leader influenced by Christian missionary activity started the Taiping rebellion which total may have killed 80 million Chinese before both rebellions were crushed. I don't think Nationalists would be all that indulgent of religouse freedom in China either.
