Actually, what I'm really curious about is what % of current active FReepers were among the collection of nitwits that voted for Perot in 1992.

Not me. My father-in-law voted for Perot. Doing it all over again I would also have voted for Perot, we need a business man in charge of this country. Shamefully I admit I voted for Clinton in 1992 :-(

I was on the USS Sunfish SSN-649 at the last year of his term. I remember Chemical Warfare Drills, and shoddy gas masks that wouldn't seal properly. (since Carter and the Democraps practically ignored the military!)

Senior in high school. Barely old enough to vote in the upcoming election. It wasn't a good election to say the least. The Nixon debacle had stirred the country up pretty good.

OTOH...lots of bi-centennial celebrations that year, kinda helped with the stigma of what was happening in the country at the time.

The first half of 1976, I was in my mother's womb.

The second half, I spent most of my time drinking formula and crying.

We spent several hours in the freezing cold marching through horsesh*t several inches deep.

The perfect metaphor for the Carter Years !

I was nearly homesteading at Useless for awhile.
I was assigned there from 1970 – a few years at Fort Story, same thing – until 1979. In ’79 I was attending advanced NCOES and one our speakers was from personnel explaining how people were picked for overseas.
“When you return from overseas your card is placed on the bottom of your PMOS stack. When someone is needed we take the top card. As an example, Sgt. Scott – when did you return from overseas?”
“Uh….cough…mutter mutter…”
“I couldn’t hear you.”
“1970”
My card should have been several inches above the stack. Somehow it was stuck sideways in the middle. It took him awhile to find it.
“Well, Sgt. Scott – I’ll fix this as soon as I get back to the office.”
A few days later I received orders for Hawaii. At least it wasn’t for the Antarctic or Tulle Greenland.

8th grade. Spent the summer in northern VA while Dad was TDY for some super-secret project. Wanted to hang out at the pool and get a tan, but Mom had other ideas: we marched to every Civil War battlefield within a 50 mile radius. Caught the bicentennial fireworks on a blanket yards from the reflecting pool of the Washington Monument. Turned out to be one of my most memorable summers.

Family was not political in the least and I had next to no clue about the election. My, how things change . . . Brother (f zero) and I are now rabid pubbies and the 'rents are right behind us!

I had just graduated high school and turned 18. I was in an Air Force tech school at Kessler AFB when I cast my first ballot for Ford. That election set the stage for Ronaldus Magnus.

In 1976 I was a dorky, socially retarded, misfit who was terrible with girls, and had acne.

Since then, my acne has cleared up.
