PHOENIX (October 17, 3:36 pm ADT) - Police on Sunday were still trying to determine who was driving a stolen truck loaded with illegal immigrants that smashed into other vehicles and rolled over, killing six people and injuring 15, some critically.

--snip--

The impact tore the roofs from some cars and trapped several motorists in their vehicles, Redmond said. James Lee, 74, and Emilia Lee, 71, of Huachuca City, were killed when the pickup hit their vehicle.

Hey, beautiful, long time no see.

It has been a rough weekend and the mood is hardening as local people catch on to the fact that this chase could have ended even worse. It went through 18 miles of our most densely populated area and its heaviest traffic. There are a dozen spots along that route that would have raised the casualty rate to an ungodly level.

"not one of the news rags in Arizona bothers to put out an update, but the Anchorage Daily News up in Alaska manages to put the story online."

Nor will they with the LEGAL Citizens up in arms and Prop 200 ready for a showdown.

I hope there is enough left of the stolen truck to get good fingerprints and any other evidence from it --- most likely the driver is wanted for any number of previous crimes. He might have been able to have fled the scene but I hope there is someway they can determine his identity especially if he's caught coming over the border again.

Amazing how these Mexican illegals always seem able to run like jackrabbits into the bushes after a car wreck. Never to be apprehended.

The driver is probably a Phoenix local. He picked this bunch up in Ash Canyon a couple of miles north of the border. His job was just to move them the two hundred miles to Phoenix and into a stash house.

Then it might be easier to catch him -- although he may have fled into Mexico by now but if he's been living on the USA side, then likely they can find information on him --- who he was working for --- and the company that recruited this load of illegals --- and all should be made to pay heavily for their involvement in this kind of crime and destruction.

I sincerely hope so, but my gut feeling is that he is already back in Phoenix. I'm sure he knows this area well, he'd have to in order to evade pursuit down by the canyons and here in town. He probably made it to one of the safe houses just southeast of the crash scene, shed the pony-tail, changed clothes, and had a friend drive him out. Hopefully fingerprints will shed some light.
