I was curious about your post so I Googled the term "juramentados".

Fascinating. Although, in the one article I read (linked below) I didn't see a reference to them being on drugs.

The juramentado could not be called insane but was under the influence of a frenzied religious excitement.

Often believed to have been drug-induced.
