COMEDY CENTRAL's 'DAILY SHOW' has experienced surprise audience erroision -- despite a publicity push by host Jon Stewart.
Stewart, who announced last week that he plans to support John Kerry, pulled 1,040,000 total viewers for month of September -- down 7% from August, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
A jumbo push by media writers and a bestselling book apparently has failed to translate into any audience improvement.
"Stewart...pulled 1,040,000 total viewers for month of September -- down 7% from August...."
1,040,000
----
20 shows
=
52000 viewers each night?
Or is this "million total viewers" jargon for a million per night?
I guess I was one of the other five. While I always knew that Stewart was in the mainstream of New York Jewish intelligentsia, and therefor very liberal, he was also the funniest and smartest guy regularly on TV.
A year ago, he and his writers would to take pains to try to skewer both sides. Unfortunately they have become too aware of the fact that they are the major source of news for a huge voter demographic. That combined with their zealous conviction that Bush is a basically an instrument of evil have moved them away from their core competency of smart-assed slacker comedy.
Their mission now is to proselytize their anti-Bush message in a desperate effort to "save" America. Their fake news show has devolved into a fake comedy show whose real mission is to spew strident propaganda dressed as comedy. About the only thing that makes me laugh now are some of the Back in Black segments.

Am I the only one who read the first sentence of the article on Drudge? It says that he is announcing next week that he plans to support Kerry. No more wishy-washy "am I a liberal or not?" stuff.
Of course his viewership will decline in light of that.
Dunno I just read the article on Drudge . My guess if he keeps it up they will be counting by the dozens.
If you caught him on cnn, he outright claimed to be the "buttboy" for Kerry
Yeeeeech!
Actually I agree regarding Kilbourn. He's no great talent, but the show was more even-handed in who was lampooned during his tenure.
