Dear sporkgoddess,

One may disagree with a discipline, though one is still bound by it. One may not dissent from a magisterial teaching, even one that is not technically infallible.

But the teaching on abortion is likely infallible, as the theologian commissioned by the CDF has clearly stated, and thus dissent from it is absolutely heretical.

Mr. Kerry is a heretic.

I'm willing to spring for the kerosene.

Abortion is infallible? Wow, then I guess they do have a case. Good. But I'm still afraid that this will anger many Catholics.

There's not much doubt that kerry has been automatically excommunicated, latae sententiae. But with the assiduous help of the media he will simply deny it, and most people won't know what to think.

Public notice of his excommunication is what's needed at this point. Not just because of the seriousness of Kerry's sins, but because he is a flagrant public scandal, tending to produce error in the minds of many poorly educated or thoughtless Catholics.
