I am a Red sox fan and seen the writing on the wall Last week.
I've been following the Red Sox for almost three decades and I can't remember a collapse like this. A week ago, the expectations were so high after the sweep of the Angels. It was to the point that many Red Sox fans were actually looking past the Yankees to the World Series.
I gave up watching last night after seeing Johnny Damon clipping his toenails in the dugout. I mean, the guy had his shoes off and was just clipping away. For some reason, that just pissed me off (as a fan). I realized at that point that the team had totally lost their focus and was just playing out the string. Also, the manager of the Sox (Terry Francona) has no control. Do you think the Yankees skipper would let his first baseman clip his toenails in the dugout during a game?
At least we have the Patriots. 20 games in a row now, and counting. This team knows how to win and while they aren't blowing anybody out, they stay disciplined and never lose their focus. The Pats came close to losing todays game against the Seahawks but once again, they came up with the big plays to stop them.
Anyway, now that it is over (and there is no way the Red Sox are going to take four straight at this point), I can at least take solace in the fact that the Red Sox are not going to be campaign props for John Kerry anymore.
