Yankees look for sweep; Astros try to pull even

October 17, 2004 BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - After a record-breaking rout against the Boston Red Sox in Game Three, the New York Yankees are on the verge of their 40th World Series appearance.

The Yankees - and the two teams combined - set a League Championship Series record for runs scored in a 19-8 rout of the Red Sox on Saturday, taking a three games to none lead. Of the 25 instances when a team has taken such a best-of-seven series lead previously, it has closed out the series in four games 20 times.

The chances of New York advancing to the World Series for the seventh time in nine years are very good considering no baseball team has ever come back from a three-game playoff series deficit. New York will give the ball to Orlando Hernandez, who jumped out to an 8-0 start this year before shoulder problems resulted in a finish of 0-2 with an 8.03 ERA. In his one start against Boston this season, "El Duque" pitched just three innings due to a rain delay.

Boston will pin its survival hopes on 14-game winner Derek Lowe, who was moved up from a potential Game Five start after the Red Sox used scheduled Game Four starter Tim Wakefield out of the bullpen Saturday. Lowe has a career 3.50 ERA in the postseason but was saddled with a 9.28 ERA against New York during the regular season.

If it was Giorgio Posada, he might be Eye-talian.

That's why I don't watch the Spankees till the 7th inning.
I watch much better when the end is near. And I'm not kidding. The few Yankee fans I know up here in MA are the same way. The MSM goes nuts in May about the Sox, and all we do is ignore the game and wait till Sept. I won't watch this one till the 6th or 7th inning.

Yes and yes. LOL.

In fact both of my sons in law love my daughters and I bust both of their balls. I also kick their asses on the racquet ball court and the golf course but I'm past my fighting prime and these are two big fellows so I know when to quit. Or if I don't quit I keep a granddaughter in each arm. :-}

"Boomer! If the Sox aquired A-Rod he's would have had 55 dingers this year..."

Easy...

Gee -- A-Rod almost makes me forget Aaron Boone.

Clean out of the stadium (just like last night), it appears.

And did you see that somebody threw the ball back, just like last night? Pretty funny.

The Sox are so down on Derek Lowe, but he's a regular Sandy Koufax compared to the clowns they had pitching last night!

To be a catcher in NYC you have to be Italian

Were Dickey and Munson Italian?

"That one was right down the pike," one of the announcers said and I thought, "Well, it's probably ON the (Mass.) Pike by now." Actually it came down on Lansdowne St
(aka Ted Williams Way) and someone threw it back (Cubs-
style--over the 50 ft or so wall. Johnny Damon threw it
back to the street, and it came right back! Finally
umpire Joe West put the ball in his pocket.

Just when I thought we'd gotten the "good" Derek Lowe
back, it's "Derek bLowe" again.

And who would think Lawrence would be Italian. Although there is a St. Lawrence River.

The Fens were even throwing some foul balls back onto the field last night. I guess they gotta get their kicks somehow. .....aside from rooting against the Yankees in the World Series, that is.

DO you let theseguys win at anything besides the hand of the Walsh Girls? Or is THAT well enough? OR are they letting the Old Man "win"? Hmmm...heh-heh...

El Duque is IN COMMAND...

Well he claims his name is Lawrence Berra. But with his wit he may be fooling us all.
I hope I didn't jinx the Yanks, I just passed through fox on the dial and saw it was Jorge Posada coming up. By chance, I have a friend named Jorge, he is from Chile.

Talked to my brother in upstate NY this morning, about the stadiums there. If that ball were to be hit out of Yankee stadium, it would marked with time, date and GPS and on E-Bay in 10 minutes.
