Bush and Moore

If you are a Stepford voter, you can skip this column.

There is no sense wasting your time, if you see an "R" or a "D" in front of a candidate's name, and in a hypnotic state, push the button as an automatic reaction.

This column is for those still willing and able to think for themselves, to look at the facts, to weigh the alternatives, and to make a judgment.

For President, I submit that George W. Bush is the clear choice. In fact, there almost is no choice.

George Bush is a true leader with an accurate vision. He understands that America's number one priority is security and safety. And he recognizes, accurately, that we are at war with Muslim fanatics who threaten Western Civilization, and particularly the United States. He will to what it takes to keep us safe. Nothing is a higher priority than that.

John Kerry, by contrast, seems to have no commitment to fighting extremism and terrorism. John Kerry's most telling act was not his anti-war activism after Vietnam but in his failure to vote for America's invasion of Iraq in 1991, after Saddam Hussein had invaded Kuwait and threatened to take over neighboring Saudi Arabia. Our national interest was at stake, and John Kerry was among the few who voted no. That is indefensible, and it is downright scary.

Dennis Moore has the strong values John Kerry lacks. Moore is a man of conviction, and his highest priority is safety and security for his nation. Dennis Moore does not hesitate to support President Bush, no matter the party differences, because on major issues he votes his convictions, which are deeply ingrained from his deep roots here in Johnson County.

When George Bush asked for Congressional support to invade Iraq and take out Saddam Hussein, Dennis Moore voted yes. When President Bush asked for an additional $87 billion to support and supply the troops in Iraq, Dennis Moore voted yes. In fact, Dennis Moore went to Iraq to assess the situation for himself, and came back saying the President was right to have our troops there, fighting for freedom for Iraqis. He could see this action wass in America's best long-term interest, despite the hardships.

On domestic issues, in 2001 when President Bush proposed his tax cut package, Dennis Moore voted yes, despite strong pressures to vote otherwise. He supports small business, the cornerstone of Johnson County's economic prosperity.

When President Bush asked for Congressional support for his "No Child Left Behind," Dennis Moore gave him his support, despite strong pressures from teachers' unions. Congressman Moore has since spoken out, accurately, that the funding that was promised to support this program never materialized.

I have known Dennis Moore for almost 30 years, since he first served as District Attorney for Johnson County, later as a Trustee of the Johnson County Community College, and then as a U.S. Congressman, elected in 1998. He has been a part of this community for a lifetime. He knows the needs of Johnson County. He knows his constituency. And he cares deeply about the people he represents.

I have nothing to say about Kris Kobach, however. My parents always told me if I didn't have anything nice to say about someone, it is better to say nothing at all.

Steve Rose is the local kingmaker and a huge fan of Dennis Moore. He did endorse Bush in 2000 but only reluctantly... and that's why I thought that this ringing endorsement was interesting. Johnson County is the largest metro area in Kansas comprised of several cities. It's also influential in Kansas City MO. Steve is a huge pro-Israel guy but also a big pro-choice RINO.

The writer can be a RINO all he wants, but at least he can see the writing on the wall in this case....
