Our system of counting and casting votes is a lot sloppier than we thought. I'm not talking about the fun we're going to have on Nov. 2 trying to figure out how to work the new voting systems that 25 percent of U.S.election jurisdictions have installed since the electoral nightmare of 2000.

Part of Kerry's base?
Seriously, one of the real problems with motor voter and the other regulations which make it so easy for anyone to register and vote.

In Florida, for instance, an estimated 450,000 residents have Alzheimer's, the most common form of dementia. If a mere 10 percent of them - 45,000 people - voted in the 2000 election, it's safe to conclude, nonpartisanly, that the demented literally played a major role in Bush's 537-vote victory.Yeah, like without them, Bush would've won by 40,000 votes?

This cliched tripe may fly with the party of ignorance, but the fact is that the newest census figures show that the demographics in South Florida have changed considerably. The truth is that Alzheimer's (I won't even mention the poor taste involved here) is not the problem -- inability to read and/or write English is the problem.

'Oops! better make sure, and run down and vote!'
2 hours later...
"Damn, todays the day, I'd better get down to the polls!"
1.5 hours later...
"Yeah, todays the day! Gotta get out and excercise my right & duty as a concerned citizen!"
