If we were Dems, we would go public about the "chilling effect". Because we aren't, the elites will be happy.

With political fund raising, campaign advertising and organizing taking place in full swing over the Internet, it may just be a matter of time before the Federal Election Commission joins the action. Well, that time may be now. The day that happens, my servers move overseas. The FEC is not an international law body.
This is just a move by the Leftists to assure that only pro-Leftist political speech reigns on the Internet. To hell with that. When the FEC makes so much as one inroad on the Internet, our First Amendment rights are history.

Note that it's the COURTs who want this, not the FEC itself.
More proof that the underlying law is egregiously unconstitutional...

If Bush and Kerry, and their ilk, have their way the next campaign-finance "reform" will be the repeal of the First Amendment.
Professional politicians just hate when normal people speak out via "loopholes".

"A recent federal court ruling says the FEC must extend some of the nation's new campaign finance and spending limits to political activity on the Internet."
In Texas any such attempted regulation would be referred to as, "Pissin' into the wind." It will blow back in your face.

"The question then is, where do you draw the line?" That question was definitively answered the moment the 1st Amendment was ratified by the states. But since the government doesn't give a flying ___ what the Constitution says, they'll pose inane questions such as these, then do whatever the hell they want.
Anybody know of any free countries looking for immigrants?

OK, all you unemployed ITers that had your jobs outsourced, here's your big chance. Start making plans for when the FEC starts supressing political discussion on the 'net. Offshore server farms will be needed. Secure forms of communications, networks controlled from offshore platforms, etc. The possibilities are endless. Think how much money PACs and Corps will be willing to spend to get around the FEC "rules."
We really need some form of high speed data channel, probably satellite, that can be received and plugged into the 'net from multiple, clandestine locations. Anyone have any ideas how to do this? (But if you tell us, they probably won't be any good anymore.)

The problem I see here is that whatever the FEC or the FCC try to do it will fail. The Internet is almost something that cannot be regulated by any person or group. As soon as some bright person or persons try to invent software to stifle to flow of information some group of 16 year old overachievers will write programs to get around it.
The Old Media, etc. cannot and will not be able to stop or slow down the Internet and that is driving them all crazy.
All these Government Agencies will find it next to impossible to try and regulate the content of the Internet.

If there server is offshore what can they do about it?
Clamp down on the source like they do in China? These BureauFarts will have more on their hands if they try that.
