I am very creeped out now. I heard echoing booms in the past half hour - I didn't look at the clock, but I'm only 5 miles north of Miramar. I hope I didn't hear the crash. The local news says the pilot's name is Sean. Nothing else yet.

Good. then I probably heard only the stunts themselves... or something. the last time I heard similar booms it was from north of us - fireworks we could see at legoland or something?

Two Seans are flying the daytime show.

Could be Sean deRosier - he was scheduled for the morning show.

Prayers...

Could be artillery practice at Camp Pendleton. Up here in Carlsbad they are really noticable. Especially when the 155s are firing.

I used to love doing the 10K race a few weeks before the Airshow on the Miramar runway because you received entry to the Friday airshow - 10K people versus 100K.

LOL. I wouldn't know. I'm between Miramar and Pendleton, right up above the former and we're still trying to figure out what noises and lights are what being very new to the area. (aug). Sometimes I think it sounds like mortar practice but I'm no expert.

The Airshow activities have been suspended.

"Cabo Wabo" is the name of the plane.

He was doing a maneuver close to the ground when he crashed.

From the Mirimar Airshow website:
http://www.miramarairshow.com/

SEAN DeROSIER

Sean DeRosier brings the “Cabo Wabo SkyRocker” to the Air Show. Sean flies a yellow and blue customized One Design with small jet engines in the wingtips to help with the smoke, and it’s the smoke that proves he really has made all those dizzying turns, rolls, spins, slides and, yes, backward falls. The 900-lb., 210 hp plane was built by Sean and his father. Stressed for +/- 10 Gs, the One Design has a maximum level speed of 184 mph, and cruises with a 75 percent power setting at 160 mph.

I am going out for the day.
This is horrible news.
Prayers.

I live right above Mission Valley,
so I can't hear a thing... only the
traffic on I-8.

MIRAMAR – One of the aircraft involved in opening ceremonies at the Miramar Air Show has apparently crashed, halting operations at the outset of the annual program.

According to reports, a loud crash was overheard and the program's public address announcer halted normal narrations while authorities checked on the pilot's conditions.

The annual air show, which was expected to draw about 700,000 people, began at 9:30 a.m.

The crash occurred on a runway where the planes take off and land for the air show. The plane was coming out of a loop when it crashed, according to reports.

The pilot, identified as Sean deRosier, was taken off the tarmac via an amulance to a local hospital.

According to initial reports, the plane involved is nicknamed "SkyRocker," and was built from a $300 set of plans, with a Lycoming-custom built 210-horsepower engine.

Under the right conditions, you can hear the Marines blowing up stuff up to 50 miles away. They do everything up there - mortars, 105s, 155s, 500lb bombs. Also, off the coast on San Clemente Island the Navy has a naval gunfire support range, which being close to the coast I sometimes hear.

Also, with all the new construction in the county there is a certain amount of blasting going on to move the considerable amount the rock we have around here.

Just wait until the first "lowrider" car come cruising through you neighborhood with a 1000 watt stereo system blasting out the open windows. Make you long for the bombing/blasting. [grin]
