O'NEIL WON & KOPPEL LOST
Nightline

Posted on 10/15/2004 7:51:40 AM PDT by capebuffalo

No matter how hard Koppel tried to discredit O'Neil and the Swifties. O'Neil was able to back up the Swifties assertions citing Kerry's own words.

Koppel showed his true colors throughout the whole interview. He wondered why 22 Vietnamese would tell a different story than the Swiftvets. O'Neil wondered why Koppel would go to Vietnam to interview 22 villagers and not interview any swiftvets for this program. O'Neil's also showed Koppel the picture of Kerry that hangs in the Vietnam War Heros Museum honoring Kerry for his support. Koppel dismissed the question and assertion with some lame excuse and continued hammering at O' Neil. Koppel got so frustrated with O'Neil citing pictues, chapter and verse that we cheered, because John had Ted on the ropes and wouldn't back off. O'Neil was too much for Koppel to handle. Good for O'Neil!

O'Neil Won, Koppel Lost!

I've noticed more bandwidth wasted by the post police as of late, I believe that's what the abuse button is for...

Good post...I was looking for info on how that interview played out. Just ignore the vanity police.

You're welcome.

I am surprised they would leave this link up.

I was too. Maybe they have a little integrity.

Does anyone know of a link where I might view the Nightline interview?

I missed it and could kick myself!

I saw the last part of the show with O'Neill and Koeppel. My favorite moment was the end of the segment before Koeppel's final thought. Before cutting away, Koeppel leaned back with disgust written on his face or maybe frustration. He knew he had been had. He knew he had been made to look foolish. It was great.

I never watch 'Nightline' anymore; but passing by and just happen to catch O'Neil as program was starting. . .

He is amazing; he looks like a 'teddy bear' and Ted obviously thought he could just 'play' him as a man of little consequence - but O'Neil would not be pushed; talked over; silenced or have Ted overide the truth. Period.

Good work by John; for sure. I hope Ted needed to 'towel' off after that match.

I listened to an mp3. Oneill should have kicked him even harder in the nuts, but it was an ass kicking.

F Ted Koppel.

I loved O'Neill last night. My absolute favorite line was, "Ted, you've been had." Ted was pathetic and couldn't get a biased word in sideways. O'Neill was the Master!

The high water mark for Koppel's career was when he felt so secure in his job that he announced midway through his coverage of the 1996 Republican National Convention that it was all too scripted and predictable so he pulled the plug and refused to carry on with his broadcast.
I don't believe Koppel was ever disciplined for this stunt, which probably was a mistake.
It's been a slow downhill for him ever since, but I've noticed a young female talking head on another newscast who shares the same last name as Ted, so I'm assuming he has no objections to paternalistic practices.

I wish I had seen it, but those shows are usually so bad that I can't stand to turn them on. Thanks for the report. I'm so glad that these men came forward and are telling the whole world the truth whether or not they want to hear it!

But but but what about what the enemy viet cong said. Too funny. Koppel is a joke. ABC is a joke. Nevermind what John Kerry, his biographer, the Boston Globe, and 280 highly decorated AMERICAN vetrans say.........let's listen to the VC.
