That's because Silvio Berlusconi is no friend of socialists and communists. In May of last year, Berlusconi said in response to cummunist anti-war rallies:
"Those flags are red because they are stained by the blood of 100 million innocent victims.... I think that putting them together with the flags of peace is a real blasphemy against peace. I really consider the communists a risk to my country, liberty and well-being."
Italy is itself facing a war on two fronts, by pressures from secular communists and from Islamists. The major factor is the Vatican's presence there. If the Islamists and the cummunists take control of Italy, the Vatican will be in real trouble.
