It's the Medicare "entitlement" generation.

I deal with three elderly folks (relatives) and for some reason many people on Medicare feel more "entitled" than the most rabid "welfare Mom".

JMO, but that's the way I see it!

A lot of them are scared. There's no-one else to help out and families are scattered all over the place. And youngers don't want to help with the elders as much as they used to. They'd rather saddle their government with that responsibility. And their elders know it.

That's because Medicare is a required benefit and people have been getting it deducted from their paycheck long before they retired - just like Social Security. You can't opt out of it, but must accept it at all stages.

Therefore, it is now seen as a "right".

One could put all the money one has poured over the years into this very inferior government plan and buy a super medical plan for your old age, but the government won't let you. They'd rather keep you addicted and dependent on their phony largesse, screaming for more from this lousy, sub-mediocre program. It guarantees the health and longevity of the big government welfare state, not the health and longevity of the individual victim.

LBJ and the New Society mavens were pretty clever, eh? It is like being force-fed crack all your adult life. You're now hooked and screwed at the same time and keep coming back for more. They've stolen your money and now you want some return on it (and not ony that, but you are forced into it in your old age). But the return is pretty chintzy so you sceam loudly and demand your due from these shysters who robbed you and are making you live like a welfare client in your old age.
