A lot of people had a problem with Nixon and Nixon did go after a lot of people.

If Kerry was on the business end of Nixon's "hit list" - and for some strange reason chose not to use that for political gain (I can barely get that out since everything he's done has been for political gain), then so be it. If it's the truth, then it's the truth. But Kerry needs to sign the 180 because HE IS HIDING SOMETHING.

But I gotta tell ya, my first instinct when reading about your neighbor was that if he changes his vote to Kerry because of spite from events that took place over 3 decades ago, then he does not understand the significance of the election this year.

That's just my opinion though...

Unfortunately, a lot of people don't see this as the most important election in, what, at least 50 years.

That's the true shame of it.

John Kerry said 9/11 didn't change him.

Democrats sees this as "just another election."

They just don't get it.

If you go to Kerry's own website and look at his "honorable" discharge date, it's 1978 - when Carter was giving amnesty. Kerry got out in 1972! Actually he got out (of active duty) 1 January of 1970. He was transferred from the Individual Ready Reserve to the Standby Reserve 1 July 1972. He was discharge from the Standby Reserve 16 Feb 1978. At least according to a letter on his website that is on Navy stationary, written in 1986 to then Senator Kerry. To have requested that record of service is somewhat unusual, but it was at least during the Reagan administration. (but when the 'rats controlled the Congress, IIRC) It's also somewhat strange, given his activities and apparent beliefs at the time (1972) that he didn't resign his commission as soon as he could, which would have been in '72 after his 6 year military service obligation was completed. (That obligation is why he went into the IRR after his active duty time.

If I had to guess, I'd guess that his discharge was honorable. There was nothing for him to punished for under the UCMJ, since as an IRR he was not subject to the UCMJ, unless he had been ordered back to duty and refused to report. He could have been punished under the US Code, just as anyone else who treated with the enemy, to the point of negotiating with them and representing their position to the Congress of the United States and to the American public. Among other things, that is called treason. It's also a violation of various parts of the statue law (US Code) which applies to both civilians and military members alike.

Make that 3 January. 1 January 1970 is his date of rank as an O-3, full LT. That's a bit odd as his original DD-214 (technically not his discharge but rather his release from active duty) showed his rank as 0-2 Lt. jg.
