I was hunting in Iowa last year with a sheriff from one of the counties there, and he pointed to a house in back of us, and said, "See the house over? We just did a drug bust a week earlier, and the guy we arrested had an AK-47 lying on the bed right beside him."
However, in an earlier campaign speech Kerry told the same story but he only used the term "assault rifle" leaning against the wall near the bed. I remember researching the local article and the sheriff clearly said it was a Ruger Mini-14 near the bed.
I realize this is just a technicality, but it goes to show that Kerry has once again changed the facts to present the most "menacing" scenario to security moms; an AK-47 on the bed sounds worse than the truth. And truth is not in John Kerry's corner.
I also noticed his timeline does not account for the fact the AWB was in place and active on the date he spoke of, so either the gun was legally purchased/obtained, or it was obtained illegally during a time in which the ban was supposed to be effective. Reinforcing the point that the ban did little to deter criminals. IMO
Umm... there actually is a HUGE difference between an "AK-47" and a "Ruger Mini-14".
like the difference between fully automatic and semi-automatic, legal vs illegal (to the average joe w/out a class III).
