leadpenny - this is not so. Even though NRO is a conservative publication they have immense credibility and a reputation to uphold. They are not going to point out bias unless there is a serious question that it was there.

After reading the above article I agree that Schieffer, with a voice that certainly sounded fair, asked Kerry several loaded questions. The back-door draft question was classic old-school media style of taking the talking points from the Democratic platform and dessiminate it Goebbels-style as though it is the widely-accepted truth (since they and their canddidate have repeated it the required number of times).

Those who completely reject NRO's charge of bias are just wrong. At the same time, Schieffer comes off to me as a likable sincere guy with an impeccable, if misguided, sense of fairness. For all their intelligence, the carriers of liberal bias in the media just don't quite get it.

The back-door draft is not that crazy an idea. Its certainly debatable whether its occuring and how to avoid it. People who signed up for the Reserves didnt sign up for full time duty on a never ending basis. Its not quite a draft now but sometime next year it might be if we cant cut our troop levels.
