In any case, think about Michael Moore saying that we'd all be doomed if Bush were elected. Let's turn that around. Are we going to stop struggling to protect the Republic if Kerry wins? No. Are we going to be doomed? Not if I can help it. Join with me in stating here and now that we will stand up for freedom no matter what the odds, no matter who is in charge. Think about the days of Carter and Clinton. We may have to endure it again. True patriotism requires us to keep the faith and fight the good fight.
I've thought about this a lot, Risk. We are not going to endure the same thing again because there is something different about this election. We knew Clinton was slick - assumed that everyone would get it - and enough didn't 'get it' that we had 8 years of him. But it was mainly an idealogical struggle with the Clintons, though their ideology has gotten us into the security mess we are in.
This election has an added urgency because we are clearly at war. What is disheartening is that 47% of the people seem to think environmental issues, gay rights, abortion on demand, stem cell research, etc. are more important than our very survival as a nation. I think many of those folks hope that America does NOT survive as a democratic republic. That we are nearing a majority of citizens who believe that America is a heavy-handed threat to world security is a scary thought.
As I have said before, this election is like a medical test to see what the health of the republic really is. Many of us are pretty apprehensive about getting a copy of the results.
