I couldn't watch the debate - that's the effect that Bush has on me. It's a degree of nervousness that is akin to watching a favorite pitcher with a perfect game going into the 8th inning. So I've tuned in to the aftermath and this evening am pleased to see that a broad spectrum feels it was a draw at worst and a strong Bush performance at best.

WTF was the logic behind the Democrats prepping Kerry to bring up Dick Cheney's daughter's sexual preference?

He just couldn't help himself.
Kerry is really THAT dense.
His whole name dropping "thang" ---
he was trying to show Bush as uncaring and mean.
HA! It boomeranged.

Please watch a replay.
You will be pleased.

I didn't see the debate either, but John Kerry analyzes every move he makes up one side and down the other. He questions, considers, reconsiders, questions somebody else....

Kerry cooked his own goose, I'd bet.

The Dems think that's a wedge with the fundies.

Instead, bringing her up, gratuitously, makes Kerry look small and cheap.

Mary Beth Cahill actually told Chris Wallace that Cheney's daughter is "fair game". Back at the roundtable Kristol was outraged "What does that mean?" and Brit pointed out that "fair game" is something you shoot at. Mort was incensed already over the comment and Cahill didn't help. (Roundtable was by themselves, Cahill and Wallace having concluded their interview.)

I guess they thought it might make the administration look hypocritical or insensitive on the issue. It backfired big time. However, Kerry followed up that insensitive, below the belt comment with one about a man leaving his wife after he discovered he was gay. That was so strange and bizarre, even for Kerry. He loses 5 points right there. Just for freaky weirdness.

Maybe because there wasn't a backlash when Edwards did it and they thought it would hurt Bush with his base.
