When both men were asked whether they believe homosexuality is a personal choice, Kerry pointed to one of Vice President Dick Cheney's daughters, who is lesbian.
"We're all God's children," Kerry said, speaking of Mary Cheney. "And I think if you were to talk to Dick Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that she's being who she was, she's being who she was born as. I think if you talk to anybody, it's not choice."
Bush said he did not know if homosexuality was a choice but said, "I do know that we have a choice to make in America and that is to treat people with tolerance and respect and dignity."
Kerry acknowledged some Catholic clergy are telling church members that a vote for a candidate who supports abortion rights would be a sin.
"I respect their views. I completely respect their views. I am a Catholic. And I grew up learning how to respect those views. But I disagree with them, as do many," Kerry said.
Bush, who opposes abortion rights, said that he understood that "there's great differences on this issue of abortion," but he faulted Kerry as being out of the "mainstream" for voting against a law to ban a procedure known as "partial-birth abortion."
Just jumping into this thread...anybody grab the full context of W's comments on not being concerned about Osama? I remember him saying that and even Fox is misrepresenting and cutting off his remarks.
