Well, I do hope he GETS to suffer what is equal to just a tad more than all the rest of those that had to suffer at his "hand."

For a brief time following open heart surgery, emotions are delicately balanced and subject to rapid mood swings. Try to keep day to day events in perspective and remember that a good sense of humor is a good ally.

This must have come from this story...

Clinton doing what he can for Kerry campaign 10/12/2004 5:20 PM By: Associated Press

(SANTA FE, N.M.) - Former President Clinton wants to help and since he can't actively campaign for John Kerry, he's doing the next best thing.

Clinton regularly phones Kerry and his aides to offer advice, and he plans to tape a phone message and perhaps even radio ads.

But campaign officials say his slow recovery from heart surgery is making it questionable whether he'll be able to do any physical campaigning.

One senior Democratic official who recently saw Clinton said the former president reported that his recovery had been harder than he had expected. But Clinton told the official to begin planning a couple of events for the final days of the campaign.

Another Democrat says that may be wishful thinking, and doctors and his wife are not sure he is strong enough.

My Father had this same surgery a month ago today and he is 81 and in exceptional shape but he isn't bouncing back either. He is doing very well and is now walking well and on his own but it doesn't matter how old you are. When you have this type of traumatic surgery it takes a while to recover no matter what age you are.
Clinton probably has been pushing it so that he can be at his library opening and has done too much. You just can't rush a recovery from this type of surgery.

I've often been aware of profound mental changes in my patients(as an ICU) post open heart surgery, many go thru a depression of sorts. It's hard for experts to quantify the reasons medically, it's often a combination of factors. Often the thoughts of potential sudden mortality and imposed activity limitations can trigger a type of involutional depression. To further complicate this depression, various cardiac medications can negatively impact libido and sexual performance!

Certainly medicines can affect the sensorium post cardiac surgery. The brain is also vulnerable intraoperatively to circulation changes(especially when cardiac functions are interupted briefly and/or patients transitioned to heart lung machines, ect) and mild anoxic damage can occur, detectable as personality changes and depression post operatively! Most family members complain of a "blunting" of affect and loss of emotional spontaneity, a loss of initiative and drive. Heart transplant patients seem to suffer most from these medical and psychological side effects, though bypass patients seem to suffer from these effects in significant numbers as well.

Funny you should mention Ron Brown. It was just pointed out by Chickenhawk Medved that Bush has appointed more prominent African-Americans to high posts than any other president, which is true. When he said it, I thought of Clinton and the highest black he appointed, and I think it was Brown, who held only a lower-level cabinet position ... before, as some reports indicate, he wound up with a bullet in his skull on the way down.

In regards to Bill Clintoon's slow recovery from open heart surgery:

As PJ O'Rourke wrote after Jim Fixx, the jogging guru, died of a heart attack while out jogging:
"Among the manifest attributes of GOD, let us not not forget his sense of humor..."
(Falls out of chair LOL)

He might be physically OK, but people often show mental problems after open heart surgery

I've read also that many heart patients can become quite depressed, post-op. If he's in the doldrums, it would be hard for Blubba to fake enthusiasm for a guy he probably doesn't like at all.

Too bad. I really feel sorry for the guy. After all, if it was any one of us, our wives/husbands would be tending to our needs to help us through this difficult time. Does anyone really think that Slick has such care?

I'll preface by saying that it is totally out of character for me to say anything defensive of Hillary but, I'm of the firm belief that bubba is reaping exactly what he has sown. While bubba' may be a goodtime Joe, he's not husband material & IMO, he has gotten exactly the kind of wifey-poo that he deserves.
