It should never be forgotten that we once had a staunch ally in the Shah of Iran that kept the area relatively stable. Carter allowed Khomeini back into Iran and then screwed the Shah - wouldn't even allow him to stay in the US for cancer treatment.

That's right and Carters actions are directly responsible for the Soviet Union invading Afghanistan and his big response: Not send our athletes to the 1980 Olympics...
