Just got an IM from my office over in Winston.

Per xxxx, Please be aware. Stay away from Hanes Mall (and the Hanes Mall area). A substance was sprayed there earlier that has made people sick. They have sealed off the mall. Also, there has been a bomb threat at the courthouse.

I'll keep you updated. http://www.wxii12.com/news/3872535/detail.html

A few more interesting articles....

I was looking for info. in older TM threads, and was surprised while searching to find the number of "views" for a thread like #19 which had 4,090 responses was 98,912....so our info. is getting a great deal of traffic!

Also, in a tin foil moment I was pondering Arafat's illness and his exodos to a Paris hospital....while the pictures show him to be ill...not that he ever looked good.....I was thinking that perhaps his followers wanted him out of the country because "something" could be happening in that area in the near future.

At Least 120 Sickened After Conference At Milwaukee Hotel (Wisconsin - 10/29/04)

POSTED: 8:56 am CDT October 29, 2004 MILWAUKEE -- Health officials in Wisconsin and more than a dozen other states are on alert because of an illness that apparently broke out at a hotel in downtown Milwaukee.

Milwaukee health officials believe the Hilton Milwaukee City Center may be ground zero for the illness.

People reported head cold symptoms, as well as nausea and diarrhea.

This began last week when at least 120 people fell ill during a conference at the hotel.

The Milwaukee Health Department is investigating what caused so many people to get sick at the Hilton. Symptoms popped up after a computer software conference. At least 300 people from around the country attended.

Unusual activity spotted at North Korean missile base: report (10/27/04)

Pakistan Times Wire Service SEOUL (South Korea): The United States, South Korea and Japan have been closely monitoring a North Korean missile base where brisk activity has been spotted in the past several days, a newspaper reported here Wednesday.

The three countries have yet to confirm the movements at the base in Jeongju, 100 kilometers (some 60 miles) north of Pyongyang, are for test-firing missiles or for simple training, the largest-circulation South Korean daily Chosun Ilbo said, quoting an unnamed official.

"Since two or three days ago, there have been activities -- such as the relocation of mobile launchers in an apparent bid to test-fire Scud or Rodong missiles," the official said. "We are following the movements to see if this is just part of a routine training or intended to launch a missile."

Kerry's last minute pitch to Muslim Americans (10/29/04)

[World News]: Washington, Oct 29 : Presidential candidate John Kerry has made a last minute pitch to Muslim Americans, saying he would protect their civil rights and build strong relations with Arab nations willing to fight the war on terror.

Senator Kerry's finance director Shahid Ahmed Khan, a Pakistani American, appealed to voters, "including Muslim Americans", to support his candidate.

"John Kerry and John Edwards will not tolerate threats, violence or discrimination against the Muslim American community," he said in a press statement, adding that top Democratic Party leaders "recognise the many contributions that Muslim Americans have made to our nation," and assuring them that Kerry would favour immigration laws.

"They will offer a reform bill in the first 100 days of a Kerry-Edwards administration that allows immigrants to earn legalisation, encourages family reunification and strengthens border protection," Khan maintained in what is sure to become a "Kerry-watch" in a post-election scenario.

Apart from reiterating the Kerry plan on anti-offshoring of jobs, healthcare and good education, Khan said a Democratic White House would "end the era of John Ashcroft" that has "unfairly targeted American Muslims and Arab Americans and has selectively enforced the immigration laws against these communities".

He also emphasised that all citizens held as detainees would receive access to counsel, something the courts in the country have already upheld.

"While John Kerry and John Edwards support majority of the Patriot Act, they, along with a growing number of both Democrats and Republicans, believe that certain provisions should be modified," Khan qualified. Currently, most Muslim Americans and civil rights advocates oppose the Patriot Act.
