Have discussed this with my youngest son, and we are of the belief a bike in the trunk might not be such a bad idea (when you consider gas stations may not be operational) along with a filled backpack, as if you were going on a week's trip or more.

A bike in the truck is a very good idea. Much faster than walking. I may do that very thing myself.
