The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

I still think he will try to hit the major east coast cities, Houston area, and LA---
reportedly there were those nuke devices found in the middle of July along the East Coast- so perhaps he's left with the west.

As godzilla mentioned earlier... the original word was that a tape would preceed an attack. I remember we have anticipated a few tapes that ended up being old or audio. We have specifically been looking for a video of UBL.

That came yesterday....

I don't know what it means at this point. Last December, it was widely suspected that an as Sahab tape was forthcoming that would cause a new wave of attacks. That never occurred. We have seen so much psyops on the part of AQ that it is quite difficult to ascertain if this is the signal or just a continuation of their past 3 yrs of tactics.

I think we need to assess the fact that the Gadahn tape came out this week as well. The two tapes combined spell trouble in the near-term (days-weeks) as far as I am concerned.

Hopefully someone else will throw out their $0.02.

Yes it was discussed in the past. Unfortunately I have not been able to find the specific references. The past threads are still being digested by google and are not all fuilly indexed in the search engine yet. I am working on a plan to fix this problem.

I will try to search out some relevent information today.

Thanks that puts a lot of this into focus for me. I guess we will just have to watch & see what starts to happen when to find out what direction they are gonna go in.

As for my wife & I we will do our part Nov. 2nd to throughly piss off the terror pez dispenser by voting for President Bush.

"IPN reporting major power outage in downtown Chicago."

That was my dispatch at IPN last night. I asked the IPN Mod if I should send that type of incident out. Since the cause of the outage was undetermined and the area affected is part of the "nightlife" area of the north "Loop", I was advised to send it. I never did pick up on the cause. Usually the fire department just lets ComEd handle it, but the battalion chief requested that 2 fire companies remain on the street and he personally went to 2 separate locations to meet with these companies.

I would add spots in Louisiana to that list as well. We have the strategic oil reserves sites here, lots of gas plants, & not to mention how easy it would be for them to take out the entire city of New Orleans without much effort.

Al-Qaeda issues fresh threat
December 26, 2003 - 8:05AM

Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden will issue the next of his video messages after a massive attack on US territory, Saudi weekly Al-Majallah quotes an official of the terror network as saying, in its next edition.

Quoting an e-mail received from a man who goes by the name of Abu Mohammed al-Ablaj, the weekly reports that "an emissary of bin Laden has informed me that the al-Qaeda chief's (next) appearance (on video cassette) will come after a deadly, far-reaching operation on American territory.

"In the video, bin Laden will evoke the success of his backers in once again striking the United States to the core and America's failure (in its anti-terrorist campaign) both outside and inside the country," the al-Qaeda official was reported as saying in the e-mail.

"Bin Laden will also reaffirm al-Qaeda's determination to continue its war against America, until its defeat," said the message from Ablaj, who last February announced to the Saudi weekly that bin Laden would release a video statement after the US-led war in Iraq.

The most recent message alleged to be from bin Laden was an audiotape broadcast last week by Dubai-based Al-Arabiya satellite channel, but its Qatar-based rival Al-Jazeera said the tape was the same one it had aired more extensively on October 18.

Both Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya, the leading Arab news channels, have been accused by US officials of inciting violence by airing such tapes of al-Qaeda leaders as well as those of deposed Iraqi president Saddam Hussein before he was captured by US forces on December 13. They have denied the charge.

A day before the alleged bin Laden tape was aired, Al-Jazeera broadcast a tape purported to be from bin Laden's right-hand man Ayman al-Zawahiri, in which he said the Americans were beginning to stagger under the blows of al-Qaeda.

A US intelligence official said in Washington that CIA analysts had concluded that the Zawahiri tape was "most likely" authentic.

The report in the Saudi weekly came as Americans celebrated a nervous Christmas under heightened terrorist alerts and tight security nationwide.

Very good point about the media coverage. That way they wouldn't have to contact a news organization which would tip their hand to the fed's, they'd already be there.

I missed the statement about blessed Tuesday, but that sounds like a trigger they'd use.

One question though, what date was the Madrid train bombings? I thought it was 3-3-04 but I'm not sure, trying to figure out if it was on a Tuesday that happened.

They are taking a serious gamble not rasing the level IMHO. Why do I get the feeling they aren't gonna rasie it cause if Bush wins the left will blame it on the terror level being rasied & scaring the public into voting for Bush.
