The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Ramadan terror concerns?
Full Story

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

Thanks. I forgot to mention to take the fall 2001 events with a grain of salt. Rockaway is still considered an accident and Dragonfire still is a story with few details.

Everything is else is pretty solid.

Credit should go to NBC as they broke the story on the connection and initially connected about half of the attacks.

Now that the tape has been authenticated, I wonder if we will go to orange? I imagine if we do, the dems will cry foul. We've got a tough week ahead. Also, I wonder when/if we will see snippets of the video??? I hate to see the entire thing released because of secret messages.

Not necessarly. There will need to be other indicators, the knowledge of only exists within buildings without windows, that need to come together. This is very delicate decision.

I definitely agree. I would not want to be the person making the call on this one.

Do you think you should post your latest update again? It might be nice to have it closer to the active posts.

IMO, ABC has got to release the video, or at least parts of it.

Rough couple days ahead. Hopefully we can all sigh relief on 11/4. I think even 11/3 is a viable target date. A little induction for 'whomever' is elected.

That is why I started it. I'm working now to reduce 12 pages down to bite size morsels. Yesterday was very chaotic to say the least and there is a lot that needs to be sorted out in my head.

I get a good deal of political emails from like thinking conservative friends...and I am usually too busy to pass them on...but I am passing this one on the the TM today because it has excellent points...especially days before this most important election.

Reality Check

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during the month of January.

In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January.

That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq.

When some claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war, state the following:

FDR...led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost; an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman...finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost; an average of 18,334 per year.

John F. Kennedy...started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.

Johnson...turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost; an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton...went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us.

He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military morale is high! The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts.

Wait, there's more. .

JOHN GLENN ON THE SENATE FLOOR

Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13

Some people still don't understand why military personnel do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women in the armed services do what they do for a living. This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never served think of the military.

Senator Metzenbaum to Senator Glenn: "How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?"

Senator Glenn: "I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank. I ask you to go with me ... as I went the other day... to a veteran's hospital and look those men - with their mangled bodies -- in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job! You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee... and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job. You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags. You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? I'll tell you, Howard Metzenbaum; you should be on your knees every day of your life thanking God that there were some men - SOME MEN - who held REAL jobs. And they required a dedication to a purpose -- and a love of country and a dedication to duty - that was more important than life itself. And their self-sacrifice is what made this country possible. I HAVE held a job, Howard! What about you?"

If you can read this, thank a teacher.... If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran. It might not be a bad idea to keep this circulating through the November election . . .

Get out and vote for George W. Bush, a real President!

I doubt we'll be seeing the video any time soon. If the essence of the statement on the video is "Vote for Bush and we'll wack you" and ABC release it, everyone will be crying foul. I think they're damned if they do and damned if they don't myself.

Arizona border is popular with smugglers and now possibly terrorists, experts say

PRESCOTT – The al-Qaeda terrorist organization is trying to get into Mexico and cross the United States border using people who don’t look Middle Eastern, according to Congressman Randy Cunningham, R-Calif., who serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

“Lectures like this should be held all over the country, because the threat is real,” Cunningham told the packed audience at the National Security and Intelligence Symposium on Tuesday.

The U.S. has stopped more than 62 major terror acts since 9-11, he said, while adding that people such as those in the audience often are the reason.(snip)

"This is very delicate decision."

Whether are not the threats are real, they can achieve a political effect (election and post-election) by introducing increased uncertainty and volatility into the national environment. Release information and one side will see a political motive. Withhold (even if there are good reasons), and others will also see an ulterior motive.

They need to ask the "Gang of Eight" to meet and lay the intel before them.
Ask them to come to a unanimous recommendation and go with it.

This operation seeks to achieve an "effect". The effect is not a result but an environment. They are seeking the same "effect" as on 9/11 (quasi-decapitation).

Get an established bipartisan group separate from the executive branch to back the decision and the psychological effect (charges of politicization either way it goes) is negated.
