The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Ramadan terror concerns?
Full Story

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

"I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat."

Regarding "The Road to Kabul", the fact that it was pulled speaks volumes as the threat was taken very seriously and this gives credence to the afore mentioned idea that the Afganistan elections occurred without a hitch because the Taliban/OBL wanted that for some reason.

"...a threat surfaced Oct.
14 on a Web site known for its militant content.

The statement threatened harm against anyone involved in the series, from actors to TV executives, if the
Taliban was portrayed in a negative light. The authenticity of the threat could not be verified.

Some Arab channels pulled the show off the air even before the first episode"

"This will put a twist on things, aren't they looking for 2 Al Mahdi's at the same time? On the same lines as the two witness in the Holy Bible."

I think some Muslims believe Jesus will return with the Mahdi and reign with him. While Muslims do not accept the Deity of Christ (the Trinity is not seen as an incarnation of the Creator, God taking human form, but as three-God polytheism), unlike most Jews, they do seem to accept Him as a messiah (political, not spiritual). They believe in the Virgin Birth but not the Crucifixion - - go figure.

As to your question - - the two witnesses (Moses and Elijah, Enoch and Elijah, or two others in their mold) are not sent to rule but to witness the end time events as during the transfiguration and serve as prophets.

I'm no expert, and even if I were, trying to explain mainstream Muslim beliefs by looking at the books and tapes popular among radical jihadis is like trying to explain the basic beliefs most Christians share to someone who has never heard them by looking at the teachings of the Aryan Nation and the Christian Identity Movement, who contort Bible verses to justify their pathological hatred for Jews, Blacks, Catholics, and basically anyone who does not subscribe to their belief system.

The lunatic fringe does not define the norm. So I'd always be careful of anyone who seeks to explain or speak on behalf of over a billion people. Jihadis do not speak for Islam, but they are seeking to create a situation where they will.

"...but what if the stuff was looted before we had control of the country? We're only now finding
out about it."

Maybe those retired soviet military advisors who retreated as we entered had something to do with the disappearance?

"We cannot fully discern at this juncture where to draw a line on this but it behooves us to draw it non the less for the safety and welfare of our country."

I agree with you on the gravity of the threat. Just because only a few engage in active jihad (a tiny percentage) does not mean that hundreds of times more (a much larger percentage) sympathize.

But there was a reason I brought up the Farrakhan analogy. Just because a group feels wronged and subject to injustice and may be attracted to a radical philosophy does not mean it is preordained that they will take the next step, or that their minds cannot be changed. Plenty of Southerners grew up in an atmosphere of ignorance and hate toward minorities, but have learned to leave that baggage behind them. Just as many in the inner city may be exposed to their own philosophies of hate (like Farrakhan), but learn to grow up and leave them behind.

I think this is what the President means when he advocates the "transformational power of liberty".

I'm no expert but I have a friend who's pretty knowledgeable about the stock market. He says the market hates uncertainty. Once the election is over, regardless of who wins, things will return to normal and stabilize.

FWIW.....

Thanks a.d......I personally think that if/when Bush wins the market will jump quickly back above 10,000 and continue upwards from there!! With Bush there is more certainty of his choices and actions...he means what he says...and says what he means.

I think that a Kerry win would make the markets stay in a cautious mode, not knowing the impact of tax increases, oil security, etc.

I agree with your assessment. Flip flopping skerry would cause the market to stay jittery.

Apparently the markets always prefer an incumbent President to a challenger.

The dollar has erased a lot of its downward plunge from the last 2 or 3 days, and gold is starting to drop to where it was about 2 or 3 days ago...

Yes, I knew about the thrid rail, but it was not in the news report, I attempted to repeat what was said.

The only other item about the man on the tracks was that
he was there, before he was under the train, that didn't make a lot of sense.
