Unfortunately, this theme reeks of Lamar!tis all over it, and I've been less than impressed by his tenure (and that's putting it mildly). If it wasn't to be Cain, I'd have preferred Mac Collins. Isakson is obviously better than his 2 boob opponents, but he's going to be quite a step down from Zell Miller (and Paul Coverdell).
Comparing Lamar! to Johnny Isakson is indeed an accurate statement. Iskason feels he deserves the Senate seat for serving several years as a Republican state Rep. when the GA GOp was akin to a 3rd party. Karl Rove probably endorsed Lamar! for Senate because the White House felt it owned Lamar! a big favor in light of the TN victory in 2000.
Yup. I still can't imagine what they were thinking in endorsing Lamar!, especially given he did little to help carry TN in '00. The only person who helped Gore lose TN was Gore himself (and I saw the writing on the wall as early as '96 when the state almost ended up going for Dole). Lamar!'s time was back in 1984, when he could've prevented Gore's ascendence to the Senate, but he wouldn't do it (and that was hard enough to forgive). His '02 race was bad enough, seeing him bailed out by heavy-hitters when it was clear Ed Bryant was the better candidate and more up-to-date (especially by Rove & Co.) still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. :-|
