In Their Own Hands (What the Kerry and the MSM Don't Want You Too Know- We Are Winning In Iraq)
National Review ^ | October 12, 2004 | W. Thomas Smith Jr.

Posted on 10/12/2004 4:10:10 PM PDT by huac

"The enthusiasm of U.S. Marine captains Thomas "Tad" Douglas and David Nevers can hardly be contained. Their voices, alternately crackling over a weak satellite-phone connection, are heartening as they describe the successes they are witnessing in Iraq. The insurgency is losing ground. Iraqi civilians, feeling less afraid than in previous months, are increasingly coming forward with solid information about the bad guys. And a new Iraqi special-operations force is taking the lead in wiping out guerilla strongholds, south of Baghdad."

The Left's proffer of Iraq as Viet Nam is accurate in one way. As in Viet Nam, we are winning the battle there, but the Left will again try to convince us that we are losing.

It's only a matter of time before we crush the insurgency.

Which is why we shouldn't have bothered with the UN AT ALL and just attacked back in January of 03. If we'd done it then, it'd all be wrapped up by now and we'd be prepping for an attack on Iran, which would almost surely give us an election victory.

The last insurgency that needs to be dealt with by the Marines, would be Mullah McAulliff and the terrorist and Et El DNC Mosque..

"With the Americans, we're the same team, no difference," Col. Kathom says, through an interpreter. "The training is very good. I am very, very happy with the progress. We will destroy the bad guys."

Not kill or capture, maim or defeat, but destroy the bad guys. We know they will ;)

None of that "bring them to justice" crap either!

The success of the new unit has instilled "great confidence" in both SWAT-team members and regular Iraqi soldiers, says Col. Salaam Abdul al Kathom, the commander of the Iraqi SWAT team. It has also increased pride and a greater sense of security for the Iraqi people.

"With the Americans, we're the same team, no difference," Col. Kathom says, through an interpreter. "The training is very good. I am very, very happy with the progress. We will destroy the bad guys."

Yep, sure sounds like one of those despairing Iraqis the military innocents of the Democratic party keep rabbiting on about. (Of course, they're the only guys in the world so clueless as to be impressed with Kerry's "seagull tour" of Vietnam)

This is one of the most important, but little documented, uses for a special operations element or capability: it builds confidence both among the servicemen (very important) and among the citizenry as a whole. Our conventional forces have performed to an unprecedented high standard, and it is a bit unfair to them, but Joe Public gets a good feeling when he hears Special Forces or Rangers (or, for that matter, Marines, who are a special force of their own unique kind) are on the job. And Joe Enemy Public gets a sad face, and that is as it should be.

This reminds me of one of the many guerrilla wars that the Left keeps forgetting the US and its allies won: when the Salvadoran forces first struck back against the Moscow-proxy FMLN forces, there was just one battalion doing most of the fighting -- but in short order the soldiers and the people of El Sal rallied behind them, and the FMLN's collapse led to the meltdown of the Sandinista criminal kleptocracy in Nicaragua.

If there sleeps in Iran tonight a mullah who reads the news and knows his history, Colonel Salaam Abdul al Kathom has made his sleep restless in a way that all the divisions in America's forces never could do. Somewhere in a spider hole, Abu Musab al-Zarkawi is reduced to impotent rage. And somewhere on the fund-raising circuit, Tommy Daschle is deeply saddened.

Man, I am so motivated by this article. This is the news I want to hear on the networks, not the partisan defeatism.

"Iraqi civilians ... are increasingly coming forward with solid information about the bad guys"

This is one of the reasons the left's plan to make Iraq another Vietnam will fail.

The battle at Sammara was a great victory for the Iraqis - the soldiers began believing in themselves. I'm so glad to see they are heading the attacks, and we are just supporting .. marvelous!!

I have a friend at work whose son was so excited about a recent victory in a town (I can't remember the name right now) that had been held by insurgents. He sent an email home, telling his mom that when she read of the news, to know that he was involved. He was so proud.
She did not have the heart to tell him that the news media had ignored it. These men are doing their jobs so incredibly well, and John Kerry is doing exactly what he did during Vietnam.... working with the enemy against our own men in the field.

Should be LSM = (Lame Stream Media),They love to think that they are Main Stream,But they are not.

They are ever more drifting away from Normal,Main Stream America and shouldn't be afforded the title of "Main Stream"

Words have meanings.
We should use Titles that are more descriptive.....IMHO

LSM = Lame Stream Media
Or its variant
LSSM=Lame Stream Snooze Media

Kerry is right. Bush's Iraq policy is a catastrophic failure indeed, but only for his allies: the terrorists, the insurgents, Muqtada al-Sadr, Saddam Hussein, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and the chemical and biological weapons users.

Last I heard, Rush Limbaugh sits atop the mainstream media empire; after all, no one (correct me if I'm wrong) except Sean Hannity rivals his 20 million weekly listeners, viewers, readers, etc.
