The Shia ulema gave a fatwa that killing five Sunnis would earn the killer a berth in paradise. The Sunni ulema at the Ottoman court issued a fatwa that killing ten Shias would earn the mujahid a place in paradise.

Islam has progressed a lot from those times. I think the quota required is up to 15 now.

It is time to reject extremist, politicised Islam and the terrorism associated with it. We need a reformation which retains the eternal message of compassion and humility that the Prophet (PBUH) practised in Mecca. I am convinced most Muslims still believe in such a humane Islam.

I appreciate the good motives and sincerity of the author. He can reject it, but a majority of muslims world wide still view Bin Laden as a highly admired role model. A small percentage participate in Islamic attrocities, but a larger percentage funds, accomdoates, and encourages it, and a larger percentage still applauds it. A majority refuses to condemn it openly, sometimes understandable since it might bring a death sentence.

"Reformation" of Islam would be transitory at best, because you cannot change the original writings. You cannot change the fact that Mohammed, role model for all Muslims, butchered several hundred jewish men in a surprise attack, and enslaved all the women survivors. That was a village he had a "peace treaty" with. Echoes of this attrocity have appeared over and over throughout Islamic history, including modern day Sudan. Whatever trendy interpretations of Islam arise, people will eventually always fall back to the original writings.

This author and good hearted muslims can cherry pick compassionate bits out of the Koran and Hadiths, but those who study them carefully will discover the essence of butchery and enslavement reflected throughout Islamic history. The only guaranteed way to Heaven according to Islam is death in a so called "holy war", that's why zealous converts often go straight to signing up for the latest Islamic expansionist butchery campaign. Conveniently, they are ongoing all over the world. In contrast, Zealous Christians like the Amish, do things like bake pies and sell them.

I believe the author that he did have noble and good hearted ancestors. If he went far enough back in history, he would probably find that at some point his family was forcably converted to Islam. Probably an ancestral mother, was enslaved by an ancestral father conquerer, and his line is the forcable result. Like the author today, his ancestors had little choice about following Islam -- those who disobey or follow their conscience are killed. Break the oppressive cycle that has enslaved your family throughout the ages, reject and resist the demonic ideology of Islam. Do it for your children and everything good in the world.
