Australian Prime Minister John Howard, one of the staunchest U.S. allies in the war in Iraq, won reelection by a convincing margin on Saturday, despite what the Associated Press called "widespread public disagreement" with Howard's position on the war.
Still, while it was a significant triumph for a politician who stood by the U.S. when the going got tough, Sunday's Washington Post buried news Howard's victory on page A34, where only the most tireless reader was likely to find it.
The New York Times didn't do much better, tucking news of Howard's reelection at the end of Sunday's International section on page A16, right after a report on the locust infestation in Senegal.
Contrast the light coverage that Prime Minister Howard's win got with the splash reporters gave to news of an Iraq war ally who was voted out of office.
Last March, when Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero defeated Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar on the promise to withdraw troops from Iraq in the wake of the Madrid train bombings, the New York Times churned out no fewer than four front page stories.
The Washington Post followed suit.
Downplaying Howard's win on Sunday did give the Post a little extra room to cover bad news from Iraq. Somehow reporter Steve Fainaru managed to dig up four Marines who complained the war wasn't going well.
The Post put that story on Sunday's front page.

I guess this isn't a surprise, the New York Slimes hasn't actually acknowledged the George W. Bush won the 2000 election.

Of course they would give it minimal coverage. After all, these are the cretins that were rubbing their hands together when Aznar went down in Spain, saying that W was similarly vulnerable. There's no way they could spin Howard's win into a minus for W. After all, they aren't ever going to say that what happened in Australia could happen here--horror of horrors!

Bush won on Friday and Howard won on Saturday. Sweet. Too bad the media missed it.

It seems to me that the media is having a bad week with the news. Having barely heard a word about news out of Syria about 'being on the wrong side' and having a change of heart ala Libya. Howard wins and encouraging news coming out of Iraq regarding Sadr's thugs. All of this adds up to only one thing; Bush's policies are working especially if the news out of Syria is close to accurate.
I think that was also some positive news out of North Korea regarding the six party talks. These stories don't get much coverage or op-ed play because most in the media don't want try to understand why these things might be happening.

Somehow the press feels far more comfortable with this headline:
BUSH REFUSES TO FUND HEALTHCARE RESEARCH -- SUPERMAN DIES AS A RESULT!

It gets worse. We now have Memo-Gate 11, with ABC being outed by a memo stating they are covering the election giving kerry a free ride, basically, and that they will be harder on Pres. Bush.

No surprise the media would cover this up, just like they did the fact Kerry had operatives there trying to cause Howard to lose and undermine the safety of our troops and emboldening the terrorists for his own political gain.
It is, however, still better than them being able to run stories on how Bush's coalition is unraveling. With some of the things they have done, I suppose they could have just done that anyway--report that Howard lost.

Very little said about Afghanastan in the MSM ..Figures ..

Ah yes,
Sunday. Page 1 headline: Afghan election fraud
Monday, Page A27: No evidence of Afghan election fraud, investigation will continue

How I knew that Howard (and party) had won by a substantial margin:
NOT A FREAKIN PEEP on ABC network radio all weekend.
Even in the media-center of Los Angeles...

Poor poor pitiful me ... only get cnn!
You cannot imagine what garbage I have endured today. It's at a bitter pitch! Kerry's sinking and they're throwin' all they've got to the viewer ...unlike anything ever seen from their already water Kerrying organization.
