That's why I got so upset to hear this woman - who probably didn't even consider the deeper ramifications of what she said - talk about my baby, as if she just took for granted that we embraced these hedonistic me-first Pacific Northwest values. I hope she was shocked by my response (I did later apologize for coming down on her so hard, but not for what I said).
