Memo to Hinzman: Sometimes medics, and especially cooks, are pressed into combat by necessity.
Ask veterans of the Battle of the Bulge how many cooks, clerks, and medics got pressed into combat. Even rear-area folks are expected to be able to defend themselves. (True conscientious objector medics like MOH winner Desmond Doss being the rare, and brave, exception.)

I was a medic in the Army some years ago. Even as a medic, you know without a shadow of a doubt that job 1 is that you are a soldier and you perform that role first.
This guy didnt get through basic, AIT, join up for Rnager school and then decide he couldn't kill someone. He got through all that and decided he was a limp wristed John Kerry, who turned his boat around and ran while the other boats with him were covering the boat that hit a mine.
