As you might remember I have a friend who spent several years in Army EOD. He did not relish working with the USSS as they lived higher on the hog than his per diem allowed.
That's my experience also....... I stayed at the point in Arizona ,the Broadmoore is Colorado, etc etc.....Always the USSS picked up the tab for rental cars and the rooms but lordy help yer paycheck if ya bought a cookie & a coke out of the minibar....... We always stopped at the local grocery and bought our dinners for brown baggin in the hotel room, lots of pizza delivery or we made a quick pit stop into a local burger joint etc.... . I always liked the details at the double tree's as that big old jar of cookies was a sure threat and I had to conduct extensive taste testing . It was for the protecteee ya know ! Only doin my job !...........buuuuuurrrrrrrpppp !
I did get quite a collection of Brooks brothers best suits as USSS paid us a very nice clothing allowance. Quite a life to go from a range clearance/ demolition mission in the desert one day and sh*t and go blind time with the USSS TSD weenies the next !
Never in my life had I ever seen so much money wasted by either party........... Nothing like tossing a E-3 into a Lincoln town car and a brooks brothers suit and watching him wonder if it's OK to move without being told.
Lots of DOD assets used by the USSS....White House Communication Agency is also a DOD ran op, as is the transport of all the presidents vehicles and USSS support vehicles. Money Money Money !!!.......
I have known quite a few White House Communications folks. They did not have the problems with the Secret Service budgets, they were pretty much a DoD only operation. Transportation is the same, how many C141, C5 and C17 are used to transport limos, Suburbans, and various support vehicles?
It debends on the purpose & threat level of the trip...... for example when GHWB went to Houston once.... the night before the election he lost to bubbafucco. Every Marine one Helo in the inventory seemed like it was present so no one could pick out which one the potus was on....
Surely that just means 120 days BEFORE an election, not also continuing 120 days AFTER???
