NEWSWEEK: Democrat Donor received $22 million in "Oil for Food" Scandal
The Kerry Fairy ^ | 10/10/04 | Becki Snow

Posted on 10/10/2004 2:53:15 AM PDT by dandelion

If the name of a "Big Money" Political Party Donor with ties to Enron were discovered on the Saddam's Coalition of the Bribed, what do you think would happen to the Candidate of that party?

What if that Candidate of that Party was John Kerry?

Newsweek drops a bombshell on the Kerry Campaign: Texas Oil Baron and Big-Time Democrat Donor Oscar Wyatt has received perhaps as much a $22 million dollars in profits through oil allocations bought illicity from Saddam Hussein.

From MSNBC: United Nations: Oil-for-Food Fiasco?"

Law-enforcement sources say Americans who participated in alleged oil-for-food scams also may face further investigation. The CIA deleted from Duelfer's report names of Saddam's U.S. oil-for-food favorites. But an uncensored copy of the Duelfer report obtained by NEWSWEEK indicates Houston oil mogul Oscar Wyatt got oil allocations from Saddam which could have earned him and Coastal Corp.?a company he founded and ran until 2000?profits of more than $22 million. Wyatt and wife Lynn are major donors to political causes: since 1989 they have given nearly $700,000 in contributions, of which more than $500,000 went to Democrats. Wyatt told NEWSWEEK that his company did buy oil from Saddam but that he never did so personally, and that his company's dealings all complied with U.N. rules. ?Mark Hosenball and Steve Tuttle

Who is Oscar Wyatt? More than just a oil man, he's an outspoken critic of both Gulf Wars, and a big time Democratic Party Donor...

As per Houston's Clear Thinkers:

The 10-K also disclosed that one of El Paso's units has been subpoenaed by a grand jury from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to produce records regarding the United Nations' Oil for Food Program governing sales of Iraqi oil. The unit, El Paso CGP Company, was formerly Coastal Corp., which the company acquired in January 2001. The former chairman of Coastal -- Oscar Wyatt -- was an unabashed critic of Operation Desert Storm in the first Persian Gulf War and has been a vocal public critic of El Paso's management over the past several years.

Wyatt appears to have used his ill-gotten gains wisely - buying the leftovers of Enron.

According to New Age Business:

Enron said that the company and the Official Unsecured Creditor's Committee decided the CCE offer was best. Enron previously had said NuCoastal LLC, a company run by Texas billionaire and Coastal Corp. founder Oscar Wyatt Jr. had offered $2.2 billion in May.

So how does this affect Kerry? Well, perhaps we should couch it in terms even the Old Press can understand:

Big Oil, bribed by Saddam Hussein, helped pay for John Kerry's Campaign. Money used to buy Hussein's army's guns helped pay for John Kerry's campaign. Guns used to kill American Soldiers helped pay for John Kerry's campaign...

This may explain why John Kerry thinks the war in Iraq was a mistake. I believe the mistake may be his.

don't know if you or others saw the Chris Matthews Sunday morning show .. he ends with a segment on "scoops" .. where he says "tell me something I don't know!" ... and Andrea Mitchell brought up this Oil for Food scandal, announcing that Texas oilmen weren't named .. prompting the Spitter to ask "R or D" and ever-so-knowingly Ms. Mitchell says "R" I about jumped thru the tv, having read this thread earlier, but suspect Wyatt is not the only one involved ... and if there are R's, you can bet they will get the headlines.

Campaign contributions are recorded quarterly - there weren't any in the first quarter, but then again, Kerry hadn't been nominated yet. If there have been any since, they aren't published yet.

Mr. Khafaji financed a controversial film about Iraq by Scott Ritter, the former United Nations arms inspector who opposed the American-led invasion of Iraq.

What a cute little den of thieves.

Isn't it amazing how all of these slimey bastards are connected with Soddom's Oil Blood Money scheme?

It would be interesting to know which Republicans, if any, received any of the remaining $200K

In the 1-50 posts I saw a list of who the money went to. John McCain was the only Republican name I recognized. There may be more but I only saw McCain

A man who collaborated with the Saddam regime is a major fund raiser for the Democratic Party. The Democratic nominee would have let SH remain in power. You do the math.

He also donated at least $100,000 to Republicans. This is not so black and white as one would wish.

$500,000 to Democrats kind makes it more black and white

Yes, but according to Newsweek, over $500,000 has been given to the Democratic Party. Like a good businessman, he gives to both parties - but it's heavily weighted in favor of the Democrats.

I'll try to dig more into that after I finish this project I'm working on today. I think there are some big clues there.

And here we have the word that WYATT IS A "LIFELONG DEMOCRAT"

http://www.hcn.org/servlets/hcn.Article?article_id=4069

He built an oil empire

By many accounts, Wyatt, a lifelong Democrat, is a colorful and hard-driving character.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Wyatt, a mechanical engineer by training, started the Hardly Able Oil Co. in 1951 on an $800 loan, using his 1949 Ford as collateral.

In 1955, he founded Coastal States Oil and Gas Co., gathering gas from small producers and combining it with Coastal?s gas before selling the gas in large quantities to big pipelines. Coastal States had revenues of $12 billion in 1996, with net profits of $402 million.

As he built Coastal Corp. into the nation?s 12th-largest oil company, an empire that includes 1,700 gas stations and natural-gas pipelines across Colorado and Wyoming, Wyatt regularly dragged his opponents, and even his allies, into court. In 1984, for example, he sued a Venezuelan oil company, claiming the company was trying to drive his company out of business.

More recently, he got bad publicity on a global scale, as Coastal Corp. or its subsidiaries attempted major oil deals with Muammar Qaddafi of Libya and Saddam Hussein of Iraq.

"Oscar Wyatt would sup with the devil if he could make money from it," wrote Forbes Magazine columnist Toni Mack in 1996. At a display of the Russian crown jewels in Houston last year, Wyatt?s wife, socialite Lynn Wyatt, described her husband as having a lot in common with Czar Peter the Great.

Wyatt stepped down as chairman of Coastal Corp. last year, but has remained on the corporation?s board of directors. At last year?s gathering of Coastal Corp. stockholders, a video tribute to Wyatt offered praise from both the right (Bob Dole) and the left (Jesse Jackson).

I'd love to think that justice will come to this treasonous hack "oil man" for selling out our interests to Hussein for a quick buck and political capital for the Dems, BUT I'm a little too cynical for that.

The MSM on the whole will bury this article so low that even Newsweek won't dare do a follow-up, unless it is to apologize to the Democrats for daring to even insinuate that a "big oil" crook can also be a (*gasp*) liberal Kerry-ite.

Remember Sandy Berger? That his Watergate-sized illegal activity has not caused him to be wearing an orange jumpsuit and watching his back in the shower today is another affront to justice that the MSM has helped create.

Hmmmm? This is very interesting.

Back when the dems were briefly in charge of the Senate, Loserman said he was going to have hearings on Enron and they would "bury Bush".

The funny thing was .. shortly after starting the hearings, they were suddenly shut down. I suspected it was because it led directly back to Clinton or some other democrats (and not to Bush), and this guy who was involved in the OFF program might have been the reason why the Enron hearing didn't go anywhere.

And .. I was always curious why the MSM was never curious about why the hearings were shut down. But .. now that we know it was a big dem donor who was involved in OFF .. it explains the MSM's lack of curiosity for anything Enron.
