Advisers say Kerry to focus on trust (Clintons gearing up to campaign)
Boston Globe ^ | October 10, 2004 | Glen Johnson

....The Kerry campaign's Washington headquarters, once a hub of activity, is now nearly empty, after political operatives and communications specialists fanned out across the country during the past two weeks to work directly in the election battlegrounds.

They will be supported by scores of surrogates speaking in the closing weeks of the campaign. Dean, his onetime rival, will be dispatched to college audiences. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York is to assume an aggressive speaking schedule. And Bill Clinton, who is recovering from open-heart surgery, may return to the stump the week before the election or, at least, tape get-out-the-vote calls and videos.

In Iowa last week, where voters are known to jot down their impressions in a notebook during precaucus meetings with the candidates, Kerry handed out a laminated index card summarizing the reasons to vote for him and to reject Bush's bid for reelection. ''Good jobs, increasing family incomes, health care for all children, and fiscal discipline" were the underlined catchphrases, while the case against the president included lost jobs, a $1,500 decline in average family income, an increase of 5 million people without health insurance, and the highest federal budget deficit in history.

''If you in Iowa think your life is better off today, four years later . . . I guess you could say, 'I like it, and I want more of it,' and go vote for George Bush. But if you believe that we can do better and that there are better choices," Kerry said in Tipton, .....

The campaign also believes that the debate over stem cells, whose research Bush has limited while in office, is especially potent with female voters.

....In addition, aides said Kerry must connect with voters on an emotional level in the closing weeks of the campaign......

Really, why?
Do females want their aborted fetus going to research and now that can not happen.
Why is stem cell research more appealing to women?

I see that position as trying to persuade women that they should think that way.

Stem cell research, abortion, euthanasia, the NARAL line 100%, etc., etc.

Iowa: Catholics, Evangelical Lutherans and other conservation Christians are a good portion of the population in Iowa.

Not fertile ground for Kerry's brand of cafeteria style religion. Doesn't help to be a liberal from Mass. as well. When is the last time Iowa elected a liberal from the Northeast? Answer: 1936
